Description

1st Day: Arrival in Ortona
Ortona is a proud city of culture and sea, homeland of eclectic artists, one of the most appreciated beach resorts of the Teatina coast. Here begins the suggestive Trabocchi Coast, which extends up to Vasto. The city stands on a hill and from its splendid Eastern Walkway, you can enjoy an extraordinary panorama. Arrival at the hotel and meeting with our tour leader who will inform you about the tour providing material and advice. Exquisite dinner on a Trabocco and overnight stay.

2nd Day: Ortona – San Salvo marina (55 km; +/-300 m)
From the Aragonese Castle of Ortona, you start for this long pedal towards San Salvo, the far south of the Via Verde. Along the cycle path, you will cross historical places, such as the Hermitage D’Annunziano in San Vito Chietino and again the mouth of the Moro river, along which a historical page of the Great War has been carried out. You can see the Butterfly Cave Nature Reserve, established in 2007, includes an area of 510 hectares in the territories of San Vito Chietino and Rocca San Giovanni. Ascending a little, also the old village of Rocca San Giovanni, among the Most Beautiful Village in Italy). We are sure you will be enchanted by the wonder of the Lecceta of Torino di Sangro, a protected reserve on the edge of the mouth of the Sangro river, which overlooks right on the Abruzzo coast. For those wishing to extend the stage for some kilometers to Fossacesia, between heaven and sea, stands the majestic Abbey of San Giovanni in Venere, among the most interesting examples of Benedictine architecture preserved in Abruzzo. And what about the Punta Aderci Nature Reserve? Beautiful green expanses alternating vineyards to wheat fields, magnificent colors and smells that will leave an indelible mark in your memory. The area extends to the promontory of Punta Aderci, a balcony on the sea that dominates the beautiful Punta Penna beach. Continuity, Vasto, with the gulf overlooking the Adriatic, has ancient origins and collects the ruins of three thousand years of civilization, testified by ancient towers, fortifications, churches, and palaces. Finally, San Salvo marina where the Abruzzo section ends. Arrival in residence. Bike withdrawal. Dinner and overnight stay. On reservation and extra, the possibility to taste the famous brodetto alla vastese.

3rd Day: San Salvo marina – Ortona (by train)
After breakfast, you will reach the nearby railway station to take the Trabocchi Line of RFI, returning north and admiring from the train windows the route made the day before by bike. Arrival in Ortona and end of services.
