Umbria escape from Spello to Assisi by bike

Day 1: Spello
Individual arrival in Spello. Standing at the foot of Mount Subasio, the city has kept its medieval charm intact. Once in the historic center, you will find yourself in a maze of alleys and cheerful squares colored by flowers; in fact, the city is famous for its infiorate. Enjoy a walk among the monuments of the city: the Collegiate Church of Santa Maria Maggiore with the Baglioni chapel, decorated by Pinturicchio, the church of S. Andrea, the picture gallery, the Roman mosaics and the Porta di Venere, the best preserved of the six access gates to the city, dating back to Roman times. Overnight in a hotel in the historic center overlooking the Umbrian Valley.

Day 2: Spello –Bevagna – Torgiano (41 or 52 km)
In the morning you will still have some time to visit Spello, after which you will leave for the first leg of your tour of Umbria by bike pedaling towards Bevagna, with the possibility of extending the route by about 10 km, passing through Foligno. Both alternatives cross the Umbrian Valley following flat paths, between fields planted with cereals, sunflowers, vineyards and olive trees. From Bevagna, a city of Roman origin, a short ride will take you to Torgiano, an ancient fortified village and today a quiet hilltop town at the confluence of the Chiascio and Tiber rivers. The surrounding fertile hills are ideal for growing grapes and olives. If you have time, visit the Wine and Oil Museums, created by the Lungarotti family, famous local winemakers.

Day 3: Torgiano – Assisi – Spello (33 km)
The second stage of this short tour of Umbria by bike will take you to pedal along small flat roads up to Assisi, and then back to Spello. Even if reaching Assisi, located on a hill, requires a little effort, you will be amply rewarded by the beauty of the city that dominates the Umbrian Valley. Here history, traditions and art are brought together in a harmonious mix. In Assisi there are many things to see: the Basilica of San Francesco and Santa Chiara, the fortress, the museums and the Roman Forum. We also suggest to wander through the alleys of the city center and stop in one of the many squares to enjoy a break in one of the many cafes. Leaving Assisi, you will cycle among the olive groves until Spello.

Day 4: Spello
End of services after breakfast.
