Description

Day 1: Amsterdam
Individual arrival in Amsterdam and hotel accommodation. We suggest arriving early to stroll in the beautiful and peaceful 17th-century canal district, recognized as a World Heritage Site. If you like hustle and bustle, don't miss a visit to the famous squares: Dam, Rembrandtplein, and Leidseplein. If you prefer to see less known areas, take a walk up to Brouwersgracht or rent a pedal boat to enjoy the city view from the water.

Day 2: Amsterdam – Haarlem (30 km)
If you get up early, you can avoid queues and visit the Van Gogh or Anne Frank museum before leaving Amsterdam and starting your bike tour to discover the Netherlands. Once you leave the capital, you will pedal through Kennemerland, where you will find a great variety of landscapes: vast polders, gardens, country estates, forests, and beautiful peat bogs. The it will end in Haarlem. The city centre is very charming and offers numerous possibilities for shopping, exploring art and culture, or simply relaxing in cafes and restaurants.

Day 3: Haarlem – Leiden (43 km)
Haarlem is a must-see stop on any bike tour in the Netherlands and deserves to be thoroughly explored. We advise you to walk around and discover its hidden hofjes: small squares with hostels surrounding an idyllic courtyard. We highly recommend a visit to the Frans Hals Museum, which collects the works of Haarlem painter Frans Hals (group portraits) and his townsmen, for a dive into the Dutch Golden Age. In the afternoon, prepare yourself for a bike ride in the colourful Dune and Bulb Region. Today's destination is Leiden, the oldest university city in the Netherlands. Always lively, Leiden offers many cultural events and the beautiful old town has canals, monuments, windmills, and museums. A special mention goes to the historic Botanical Garden. If you travel in the spring (April / early May), which corresponds to the peak bloom of millions of bulbs (tulips, crocuses, daffodils, and hyacinths) you can book an extra night in Leiden, to visit the Keukenhof Flower Show.

Day 4: Leiden – Delft (29 km)
Once you leave the vibrant Leiden, you will immerse yourself in the peace and tranquillity of the countryside. While crossing the typical scenarios of Netherlands by bicycle, observe the precision of the rectangles of land in the human-made landscape of the polders (mostly works of peat reclamation). Cycling towards the famous city of Delft, you will pass through sparkling lakes and green pastures, old windmills, and farmhouses. Delft's melancholic charm is breathtaking; many associate it with the blue and white hand-painted ceramics (Delftware), but Delft is also the city of the royal family, the Technological University and Johannes Vermeer, who painted one of the most beautiful paintings there, The Girl with the Pearl Earring... a mix of tradition and innovation!

Day 5: Delft – Gouda (34 km)
Another must-see stop on a bike tour of the Netherlands is the Groene Hart (Green Heart) area: pedalling along the dykes that separate the polders admire the villages, the wide horizons, and the fields of bright green, delimited by canals and perfectly squared. The destination is Gouda, where we recommend a visit to the Gothic-style Town Hall (1450), the Weigh House (1667), the romantic canals of the centre, and the stained glass windows of St. John's Church. Gouda is also famous for its honey waffles (try them hot!) and artisan candles. In the summer, you can plan your trip so that the 6th day falls on a Thursday, to see the cheese market, held every Thursday morning (from April until the end of August).

Day 6: Gouda – Amsterdam (68 km)
After breakfast, you will pedal for the longest stage of your bike tour of the Netherlands. A small detour will take you to Utrecht, among rivers, lakes, and polders (don't forget the binoculars if you like birds!). In the vibrant city centre of Utrecht, at the foot of the Dom Cathedral, flows the quiet Old Canal (Oude Grach) with its characteristic and unique quays in the Netherlands. Nowadays, these quays provide an ideal setting for the many outdoor cafés and restaurants. Try Dutch fruit pie! Refreshed from the break, you will resume your journey along the beautiful Vecht River, up to Amsterdam. If this stage seems too long for you, we can split it into two days (30 + 48 km) by booking an extra night for you in Woerden.

Day 7: Amsterdam
After breakfast, end of services and individual departure.
