Description

Day 1: Siófok
Arrival in Siófok and check-in at the hotel. Siófok is a popular and lively tourist resort, attracting many foreign and Hungarian visitors in the summer who come to enjoy the lake. The town has two major beaches: Silver Beach, popular among families, and Golden Beach, frequented more by youngsters. Siófok provides all possible comforts: shops, cafes and restaurants.

Day 2: Tihany Peninsula and Balatonfüred Spa Resort (35 miles)
Today you will be cycling the southern shore of Lake Balaton to Szántód, where the only ferry service operates. You will cross the lake to the northern shore, landing in Tihany, home to the famous monastery; the church on the northern peninsula offers unforgettable panoramic views over the whole lake. You will then continue to Balatonfüred. Take some time for a coffee on the nearly one-kilometer-long Tagore promenade before heading back home.

Day 3: Southern Shore of Lake Balaton (28 miles)
The day starts with a train journey to Fonyód, from where you will begin to cycle along the plain of the southern shore, to Siófok. You will traverse the southern side of Lake Balaton by bike, where you will find a well-developed cycle network with routes between the villages near the lake. Very popular among cyclists, this route also offers the unique opportunity to taste one of the delicious local wines in Balatonboglár or take a refreshing dip in one of the public beaches. A pleasant day of cycling discovering the villages dotting the southern coast.

Day 4: Northern Shore of Lake Balaton and Badacsony Wine Region (37 miles)
Today, you'll travel west by train and then by boat to Fonyód, to cross the lake and reach Badacsony. The small village of Badacsonytomaj is located in the heart of one of Hungary's most famous wine regions. There are many wineries to visit and perhaps the most idyllic place to spend some time is the terrace of Villa Kisfaludy, on the upper slope of the Badacsony basalt mountain cone. In good weather, you can see well beyond Lake Balaton, up to almost 50 miles. You will then return north, skirting hamlets and villages to Tihany, where you will take the ferry and return to the southern shore of the lake, after a day full of activities.

Day 5: Circular tour on Lake Velence (31 miles)
Today you will pedal north, to reach the charming coronation city of Székesfehérvár. You will take the train from Siófok to Székesfehérvár, to explore the charming baroque city center, strolling among ancient monuments such as the cathedral and the ruins garden. Then you will start the bike tour along Lake Velence, the second most famous lake in Hungary, after Lake Balaton. Return to the hotel by train.

Day 6: Western Shore of Lake Balaton (35 miles)
Today's stage will have you exploring the west side of Lake Balaton by bike. You will take the train from Siófok to Fonyód and the boat to Badacsony. You will then continue to Keszthely by bike and in Szigliget you can make a detour to visit the ruins of a medieval castle perched on top of a 239-meter high hill. Actually, Szigliget is one of the most charming villages on Lake Balaton and is very popular amongst holidaymakers and second homeowners, appreciated for its tranquillity and its location on a peninsula. From there, you quickly reach Keszthely, the magnificent baroque palace built by the Festetics family, the third largest in Hungary. Surrounded by a beautiful park in the city center, it is definitely worth a visit. From Keszthely, the route takes you south, through idyllic villages to Fonyód, where you can take the train back to Siófok.

Day 7: Siófok Circular Tour (19 or 25 miles)
Today is time to leave the lake shores to explore the inland south of Siófok. The first destination is Szántód, where you can admire a unique collection of objects, in a cheese factory dating back to the 18th and 19th century (entrance not included). The perfect place to get to know the visual arts, cultural history and folk art of this region of Hungary. On the way back, make a stop at the Kohegy observation tower, where you can enjoy a beautiful view of the northern coast, with its volcanic hills, and the Somogy hills to the south. Savor the rural idyll, cycling through charming villages where tranquility reigns. If you still have energy, you might continue to Balatonendréd. Return to Siófok.

Day 8: Departure from Siófok
After breakfast, the services end, and individual departure.
