Description

Day 1: Porto – Baiona
From Porto airport, you'll be transported to Baiona, in Galicia, a captivating and lively port town, where a great plate of fresh fish is an absolute must. Don't forget to take a stroll around the port or the Forte de Monterreal, famous for the Prince's Tower.

Day 2: Baiona – Caminha (38 km; +/-293 m or 68 km; +/-461 m)
The first half of the day will be spent on your bike, gently following the Spanish coast, along the slopes of the Sierra de la Grova mountains, and a bit further south of the Sierra de Argalo. You can enter Portugal by ferry across the Minho river, arriving in the city of Caminha, or by crossing the bridge at Vila Nova de Cerveira. In Caminha, you can admire the manor houses that frame the city entry, which has a history dating back to pre-Roman times.

Day 3: Caminha – Viana do Castelo (29 km; +/-88 m or 40 km; +/-295 m)
Today, you're headed south into Portugal on your bike, on beautiful tarmac cycle paths along the coast and fields, to reach Viana do Castelo, where you'll spend the night. Viana do Castelo, situated on the estuary of the Lima river, is a lively city full of students and a bustling nightlife. Dating back to Roman times, Viana's impressive history intersects with that of the merchants who supplied the ships of the Portuguese discoveries in the 16th century and later built the vessels that sailed to Newfoundland for cod fishing. They built many manor houses whose architectural beauty has become a distinctive feature of the city.

Day 4: Viana do Castelo – Vila do Conde (54 km; +/-139 m)
The third leg of your cycling tour in Portugal offers a lovely ride south, amongst vineyards and the protected coastal area of Esposende, a reserve of wild fauna and flora. Fishermen and their wives are very friendly and the town centre is dominated by elegant manors and smaller stately homes. The importance of its port is not solely strategic: you'll discover it while savouring a wonderful plate of sardines or other fresh seafood specialties. Relax with a pleasant stroll along the beach.

Day 5: Vila do Conde – Porto (34 km; +/-57 m or 49 km; +/-209 m)
Today, you'll be cycling to Porto, hugging the Atlantic coastline and following cycle paths until you reach the Douro river. You'll come by bike next to this famous river, arriving in one of the most beautiful cities in Europe: Porto. Porto is a Unesco Heritage site - a historic gem with over 150 monuments for you to visit. Cross through the famous Eiffel bridge and admire the Casa da Música auditorium, designed by Dutch architect Rem Koolhaas. Tonight, choosing where to dine will be a tough decision: Porto is famed for not only its wine, but also the variety and quality of its cuisine.

Day 6: Porto – Furadouro (42 km; +/-58 m)
This morning, you'll be cycling towards the peace and quiet of the Atlantic Coast. Another pleasant ride along the Portuguese coast awaits you on your bike, in part through a pine forest. The day ends in Furadouro, a welcoming town known for its excellent seafood. Enjoy your meal!

Day 7: Furadouro – Mira (58 km; +/-12 m)
Today's beautiful leg of the journey will take you through the Protected Natural Reserve of São Jacinto’s dunes. Mira, where you'll spend the night, is a small fishing village. You'll undoubtedly be inspired by the stunning colourful striped houses.

Day 8: Mira – Porto
After breakfast, you'll be transferred to Porto airport, marking the end of services.
