Description

Day 1: Porto
Upon your arrival, you will be welcomed at Porto airport and transported to your hotel in the city center, from where you can explore the city. Pick up your bicycles and head down to the riverside in the medieval Ribeira district. Porto is a historic jewel with over 150 monuments declared heritage. Cycle calmly along the riverside, past the famous Eiffel bridge and through the Porto wine makers' houses that rise uphill from the southern bank of the Douro river.

Day 2: Porto – Furadouro (42 km; +77 m)
Today, you will leave the hustle and bustle of the city to reach the peace and tranquility of the Atlantic coast. You will cycle through the numerous towns nestled along the coast and into pine forests. The day ends in Furadouro, a hospitable town renowned for its excellent fish.

Day 3: Furadouro – Aveiro (39 km; +40 m)
Today's stage is a pleasant ride through the São Jacinto dunes Natural Reserve. However, this stage wouldn't be complete without a visit to Costa Nova, a small town with its picturesque center of colorful striped houses. If you have time, take a trip on a Moliceiro, the vividly painted wooden boats used to collect seaweed, along the canals for which Aveiro is called the Portuguese Venice. Be sure to visit the salt pans and enjoy the wonderful calming properties of sea salt while soaking your feet in small pools.

Day 4: Aveiro – Figueira da Foz (35 km; +124 m)
Today's stage is a great mix of beaches, pine forests, and trails along the river. You will arrive in Mira, a small fishing village, where the main activity is traditional fishing with colorful boats that used to be pulled by oxen. You will surely be inspired by the beautiful colorful striped houses and friendly locals. Observe the golden effect of the sun on the sand, the sea, the vegetation and the brightness of the contrasting colors of the landscape. Then be sure to visit the amazing fishing village of Praia de Mira to discover the traditional colorful wooden houses they call palheiros, and indulge in the fantastic seafood based gastronomic specialties that you will find here. A collective transfer will then take you to Figueira da Foz, the perfect place to rest.

Day 5: Figueira da Foz – São Pedro de Moel (65 km; +233 m)
This stage will take you along the Portuguese silver coast and through the Pinhal de Leiria, the large pine forest planted in the 15th century to provide wood for the caravels on which Portuguese explorers sailed the seven seas. The trail follows a bike path along the Atlântica Road to São Pedro de Moel, an elegant seaside resort located in a clearing in the forest. Famous for surfing, the beautiful beach is bordered to the north by steep rocks and to the south by a small stream. Try fishing off the rocks near the lighthouse where the cliffs attract various species of tasty fish, particularly sea bass and sea bream.

Day 6: São Pedro de Moel – Óbidos (49 km; +461 m)
Today, you will visit two cities beloved by visitors to Portugal: Nazaré and Obidos. Nazaré, perhaps Portugal's most famous fishing town, also known for its beautiful beach, is unique in many respects. Its old-fashioned atmosphere, buoyant spirit, and long-standing traditions make it a special place to visit. The narrow wooden fishing boats painted in bright colors, with their high and curved bows, remind of Phoenician boats, who first visited the area. Another unique tradition are the seven-layer skirts still worn by fisherwomen, their wooden clogs and the predominantly black veil. Atop the high cliff overlooking the beach, the view on the sea is breathtaking. Óbidos, your final destination for today, is a charming fortified town that feels like a medieval film set. The city has been carefully preserved, and its residents are proud to have maintained the architectural style of past centuries, the monuments, winding alleys, and white houses with windows and terraces full of flowers. Especially impressive are the 18th-century blue-tiled walls inside the southern gate that serves as the main entrance.

Day 7:  Óbidos – Lisbon
After breakfast, you will leave your bicycles at the hotel and a transfer will take you to your hotel in Lisbon where, after checking in, you will have all the time to explore the city. Lisbon is a romantic city, open to the sea, which has always shaped its destiny. Start with two historic monuments, close to each other, on the banks of the Tagus: the Belem Tower and the Jeronimos Monastery. Both world heritage sites are famous for the beauty of their Manueline architecture. Alfama, the oldest district in Lisbon, is a must-see. Lying on the southeastern slope of the hill crowned by São Jorge Castle, the picturesque district is composed of a maze of streets, winding alleys, and steep stairways. Bairro Alto, a picturesque working-class district of the 16th century, has traditionally been the bohemian haunt of artists and writers. Its streets are quiet during the day but at night are transformed by the city's vibrant nightlife. Behind the colorful and graffiti-covered facades, you will find a variety of traditional and international restaurants, Fado houses full of tourists, and a multitude of bars and shops that stay open until late at night.

Day 8: Departure
After breakfast, transfer to Lisbon airport and end of the tour.
