Description

Day 1: The Lands of Canossa and Parmigiano Reggiano (50 km)
Individual arrival and departure from the Farmhouse just outside Reggio Emilia. The first route will take you to the lands of Canossa, starting along the Crostolo river by following the Via Matildica del Volto Santo. You will leave the Crostolo at Vezzano to start climbing towards Canossa where you can visit Matilde's places. Continuing along the crest you reach Rossena, where another impressive castle, built by Matilde's great-grandfather, dominates the valley since 960 AD. Medieval villages and beautiful views will still accompany you along the route back to the farmhouse. Depending on the opening hours, today or tomorrow it will be possible to visit the farmhouse’s cheese factory to learn all the secrets of Parmigiano Reggiano DOP production (extra charge).

Day 2: Scandiano and Traditional Balsamic Vinegar (57 km)
Today's route will take you on not too challenging ups and downs, immersed in the greenery of the first Reggio hills to reach Scandiano with its Boiardo Fortress. You will have time to visit a local vinegar factory (visit by reservation) to discover everything about the ancient art of producing balsamic vinegar, also tasting some different types. A simple ride will take you back to the farmhouse.
