Description

Day 1: Castellammare del Golfo
Arrival in Castellammare del Golfo, a picturesque port city with a history dating back to ancient times when Castellammare was the port of the Elymian cities of Segesta and Erice. Bike and information material delivery.

Day 2: Scopello and the Zingaro Natural Reserve (28 km)
From Castellammare, after a short climb, we head towards the wonderful Zingaro Natural Reserve, which you will have the opportunity to explore on foot. The trekking activity will lead you along ancient mountain trails, offering a charming view of the Tyrrhenian Sea, with its inlets and coves, where you can swim and snorkel in crystal clear waters. On your way back, you'll stop in Scopello, an ancient village, locally called baglio (from the Arabic bahal, meaning courtyard), dating back to the seventeenth century. Around its cobbled square, stand the few houses that lean against it.

Day 3: Castellammare – Segesta – Trapani (57 km)
After having admired the fabulous Gulf of Castellammare, a few kilometers from Scopello, the first ride of this Western Sicily tour will allow you to penetrate the Sicilian inland countryside, rich in olive trees and vineyards. After about 25 kilometers, interspersed with not too challenging slopes, you will reach the archaeological site of Segesta, an ancient city founded by the Elymians, more than 2500 years ago. From here you will continue along secondary roads until you reach Trapani, known as the City of Salt.

Day 4: Trapani – Favignana/Erice – Trapani (25 or 37 km)
Today you have two very different but equally attractive options. The first is Erice, an ancient medieval village perched on its namesake mountain, at 750 meters high, reachable by cable car or bike. From Trapani, a succession of 11 km of hairpin bends, separate you from its summit, from which you can enjoy a fabulous panorama that extends up to the Aegadian Islands. Return to Trapani along the coast of Western Sicily. If instead you prefer to relax on the largest of the Aegadian islands, reachable by ferry or hydrofoil, Favignana will not disappoint you, with its wonderful coves and its ancient seafaring atmosphere. Cycling is by far the best way to explore it freely.

Day 5: Trapani – Marsala (43 km)
Today's stage is completely flat. You will skirt along the promenade for the most part: the windmills and salt pans with their mounds of salt, will be the backdrop to an unparalleled landscape. Possibility of visiting the Island of Mothia, the ancient cradle of the Phoenician-Punic civilization, reachable by motorboat in a few minutes from the lagoon. The stage ends in Marsala, a city famous for its namesake wine and for Garibaldi's landing with his Thousand.

Day 6: Marsala – Mazara del Vallo (30 or 50 km)
Today's stage continues along the enchanting Tyrrhenian coastline, in Western Sicily, then gradually penetrates the typical countryside of this area, rich in vineyards and numerous bagli, ancient centers of agricultural activity. You finally arrive in Mazara del Vallo, home to Italy's most important fishing fleet, at the mouth of the Màzaro river, which divides the city into two parts. The Arab influence is evident here and is so predominant that walking through the narrow streets of the Kasbah (Arab quarter), colors and scents will remind you of the nearby African coast.

Day 7: Mazara del Vallo – Selinunte (34 or 41 km)
Leaving Mazara behind, you will continue on a road that, separated by just one kilometer from the coast, will allow you to visit the Preola Lake and Gorghi Tondi Natural Reserve. Immersed in a valley, you will suddenly come across a series of small lakes of karstic origin: a marshy habitat, a true paradise for wildlife and flora enthusiasts. You will then continue in the direction of Campobello di Mazara, along a hilly road, towards the Cusa Quarries, famous because the material necessary for the construction of the temples of Selinunte was extracted from here. About 13 km from here, there is the Archaeological Park of Selinunte, the ancient Greek city, with its standing temples that will transport you back in time approximately 2000 years. Relax and swim in the sea at the Selinunte beach.

Day 8: Selinunte
After breakfast, end of services and individual departure.
