Day 1: Arrival in Alkmaar

Welcome to Alkmaar, the vibrant heart of this unforgettable cycling adventure. From April to September, get ready to immerse yourself in the colorful and picturesque cheese markets that enliven Friday mornings, and new since 2020, also on Tuesday evenings in July and August. The Waagplein, where cheeses were once weighed and sold, now hosts the Cheese Museum. Discover the secrets and art of making the famous Dutch cheese, fascinating both young and old. Alkmaar is a city where history and modernity coexist harmoniously, with over a thousand monumental buildings and charming inner canals, perfect for a stroll through the past. You can visit the Accijnstoren from 1622, the majestic Great Church of St. Lawrence, or the enchanting Gothic Town Hall from 1520. And for Beatles enthusiasts, a visit to the Beatles Museum in Alkmaar is a must.

Day 2: Alkmaar – Schagen (61 km)

Your day will start with a hearty breakfast that will energize you for a refreshing ride. You will set off towards lush Heiloo, where you will find a pilgrimage site dedicated to Our Lady of Grace. Continuing, you will reach the enchanting Hortus Bulborum in Limmen, a historic garden offering a comprehensive view of tulip varieties through the centuries, with over 4,500 cultivars of spring flowers. Prepare to fill your eyes with colors as you cycle through the first fields of blooming bulbs, the result of centuries of tradition and dedication. You will continue to the sea, with a relaxing stop in Egmond aan Zee for a walk along the beach and the scent of the sea. Resuming your journey, you will venture through wind-protected dunes to reach the picturesque villages of Bergen and Schoorl, then enter the polder plains on the impressive Westfriese Omringdijk. You will sleep in the charming village of Schagen in a cozy hotel. There is an option to shorten the route to 40 km by skipping Heiloo, Limmen, and Egmond aan Zee.

Day 3: Schagen – Den Helder (56 km)

Today, unique landscapes and a vibrant rainbow of tulips in fields stretching as far as the eye can see await you. You will cross Kolhorn, once a seaport, and can discover the local stories in museums housed in ancient barns. Continue to the village of Keins and its chapel dedicated to the Madonna, where you can take a moment of reflection in a place surrounded by a special energy. Continuing the route, you will be amazed by the wonderful bulb fields until reaching the bird observatory overlooking the Balgzand Polder, a unique place to contemplate the local avifauna. You can shorten it by choosing a direct route to the coast. We suggest considering an extra night in Den Helder to visit the fascinating island of Texel, a cyclist's paradise.

Day 4: Den Helder – Alkmaar (63 km)

After a refreshing night in Den Helder, a day full of colors awaits you as you cycle along the dunes, exploring the vibrant tulip fields. In Petten, you'll discover how the sea has shaped this land, as you venture into the dunes of Schoorl, where you'll find the perfect mix of unspoiled nature and emerging biodiversity. The beach break will let you savor the beauty of the sea and the tranquility of the sand. Further on, in Bergen aan Zee, you can enjoy a delicious meal with a sea view, visit the Aquarium, and conclude your adventure at a comfortable hotel in Alkmaar, where you'll revisit the memories of these intense and fascinating days.

Day 5: Return Home

The last day will gift you a relaxing morning with a rich buffet breakfast. It will be time to say goodbye to this wonderful region, with the promise to return soon for new adventures on two wheels.
