Description

Day 1: Bucharest
Arrival and first welcome at the Bucharest North train station. Train transfer to Zarnesti with a change in Brasov. Dinner and overnight stay in a guesthouse in Zarnesti, a mountain village and the principal entrance to Piatra Craiului National Park.

Day 2: Bucharest - Ohaba (50 km; +250/-400 m)
Biking towards the North, to a characteristic village located at the foot of the Fagaras Mountains, the highest in Romania. With a 7 km detour on a dirt road, reach the famous Bear Sanctuary near Zarnesti. From there, head towards Ohaba, where the oldest water-mill in the area is still used by the locals to grind wheat and other cereals and where you can stop to listen to the tales of the communist period. Dinner and overnight stay in a guesthouse.

Day 3: Ohaba - Cârța (60 km; +300/-450 m)
Biking at the foot of the Fagaras Mountains and along the Bucium river. Then pass by the ancient village of Lisa, where a century-old wool blanket weaving machine is still in operation and the village of Sambata de Sus, with the surprising Brâncoveanu Monastery dating back to 1696. Proceed towards Dragus (Ethnographic Museum), cross the town of Victoria, reach the small village of Cartisoara and Carta. Here you can visit the ruins of the evocative Cistercian Monastery where, with a bit of luck, you can meet the shepherd and stop to listen to his fascinating stories. Overnight stay in a guesthouse in Cârța.

Day 4: Cârța - Biertan (65 km; +600/-650 m)
The itinerary continues towards Biertan and its enormous fortified church surrounded by several walls, a Unesco site since 1993. Continue cycling on country roads immersed in wonderful bucolic landscapes to the fortified church of Richis. Dinner and overnight stay in the village of Biertan.

Day 5: Biertan - Sighișoara (40 km; +450/-500 m)
Today's itinerary will take you to discover other treasures of Transylvania; you will pass by Sighisoara, one of the few still entirely inhabited medieval citadels of Europe and a Unesco site. Explore the old town with its famous Clock Tower, which once served as an entrance to the city, its staircases, medieval streets and Vlad Dracul's birthplace, the father of Prince Vlad Tepes (known as the Impaler), who inspired Bram Stoker's famous character Dracula. Later, you can make a small detour and reach Dumbraveni, a town with an important Armenian Catholic Church, yet another testimony of a glorious past. Dinner at your leisure and overnight stay in a hotel.

Day 6: Sighișoara - Șoarș (48 km; +600/-500 m)
Today you will cycle through the hills of Transylvania to the village of Apold, with a beautiful fortified church. You will then continue through a remote and bucolic countryside, where it is easy to meet shepherds watching over their flock. Finally, you will reach the village of Șoarș, where you will spend the night.

Day 7: Șoarș - Viscri (35 km; +350/- 300 m)
From Șoarș, cycle towards one of Transylvania's gems, the Saxon village of Viscri, with its fortified church, one of the most picturesque in the region, restored thanks to the Foundation established by Prince Charles, based in the village itself. The itinerary then continues through ancient villages and peaceful landscapes, providing the opportunity to reconnect with oneself and with nature.

Day 8: Viscri - Brasov - Bucharest
Departure from Viscri after breakfast with a private transfer to Brasov, from where you will take the train to Bucharest (several trains leaving around 1:30 pm). We recommend booking an additional night in the medieval town of Viscri, in case you did not have time to visit it. End of services.
