Description

Day 1: Salzburg
Individual arrival in Salzburg and hotel accommodation. In the old episcopal city of Salzburg, you will see Italian and German influences on Baroque culture combine to create a charming arrangement that will captivate visitors. The Baroque cityscape is particularly striking when you admire it from above from the Hohensalzburg Fortress. At the hotel in Salzburg, you will receive your travel documents and your bicycle, if this has been rented.

Day 2: Salzburg - Thalgau (23 km; +270/-140 m)
As the morning light caresses the streets of Salzburg, you will find yourself immersed in the city of festivals and Mozart, savoring the air charged with history and music. You will not be able to resist the call of the Salzburger Nockerln, a delight that conquers the palate. The afternoon sees you embark on a journey along the former Ischl railway line, closed and dismantled over 50 years ago, pedaling through postcard landscapes, where meadows and forests reveal their secret splendor. From 1893 to 1957, the narrow gauge railway ran from Salzburg past Mondsee and Wolfgangsee to the Imperial summer residence in Bad Ischl. We recommend stopping at one of the inns along the way.

Day 3: Thalgau - Bad Ischl (43 km; +315/-390 m)
Resuming the journey, you rediscover the beauty of Wolfgangsee from a new perspective, diving into the history of salt in Pfandl and continuing towards Sankt Wolfgang, where art and devotion meet. Noteworthy is the pilgrimage church, dedicated to St. Wolfgang of Regensburg, which houses treasures of great historical-artistic value. The unique experience of the "Weisses Rössl" and the adventure on the cogwheel train will leave you breathless. You will then take the boat from S. Wolfgang to S. Gilgen and then cycle towards the rising Mondsee. The spectacular path along the lake shore runs at the foot of the Drachenwand via S. Lorenz and the strangely named district "Schwarzindien" (Black India) up to Mondsee. Do not miss a walk along the charming beach promenade.

Day 4: Bad Ischl - Mondsee (38 km; +290/ -270 m)
The stage from Bad Ischl to Mondsee turns out to be a journey through the heart of Austrian nature and its thousand-year-old stories. Leaving behind the tranquility of Bad Ischl, Wolfgangsee presents itself in a new light, as an invitation to discover the secrets hidden along its banks. Crossing Pfandl, you will delve into the history of salt, once the region's precious white gold, then reach Sankt Wolfgang, where art mingles with devotion in a mosaic of culture and tradition, up to the Schafberg 1782 meters high. The "Weisses Rössl", more than a simple refreshment point, becomes an integral part of the adventure, followed by the exciting route on the cogwheel railway which offers an unparalleled view of the surrounding panorama. The boat transfer to S. Gilgen opens the chapter dedicated to nature contemplation, gently guiding you towards Mondsee. Cycling here means traveling along a ribbon of asphalt embracing the lake, with the Drachenwand in the background, a silent witness to your passage.

Day 5: Mondsee - Wallersee (37 km; +355/-340 m)
Before continuing your bike tour in the Salzburg lake district, it is recommended to visit the local open-air museum. Known as the "Mondseer Rauchhaus", it will give you an authentic taste of local life of the past. As you head towards Irrsee, you will feel the warmth of the warmest lake in the Salzkammergut and the call of nature. From Oberhofen, north of the lake, the journey continues into Flachgau up to Neumarkt am Wallersee. Quiet country roads, with little traffic, will take you around Wallersee to Seekirchen.

Day 6: Wallersee - Obertrumer See (34 km; +/-315 m)
Through a mosaic of hills and crystal clear waters, the Trumer lake district unfolds in all its glory. From Wallersee, the journey continues to Köstendorf up to Schleedorf and then to Mattsee. History and tradition intertwine at Mattsee, while the art of brewing at Obertrum makes an unforgettable experience. The Obertrumer lake welcomes your efforts with tranquillity and peace, giving you moments of pure beauty at sunset.

Day 7: Obertrumer See - Salzburg (34 km; +290/-390 m)
The final stage takes you through idyllic landscapes: small villages and isolated farms, meadows, fields, and forests. From Seeham, the route will take you to Oberndorf, also known as the "Silent Night Village", where the notes of a beloved Christmas carol resonate in the heart. Following in the footsteps of Mozart, you will return to Salzburg, completing your cycling journey.
