Description

Day 1: Tours
Individual arrival in Tours. Before starting your Loire bike tour, take the opportunity to visit the city of Tours. Here we recommend exploring the old part, whose vibrant heart is constituted by Place Plumereau, a lively square enriched by typical half-timbered houses and animated by the terraces of cafes and restaurants overlooking it.

Day 2: Tours – Azay le Rideau (44 km; +95m)
You will first reach the village of Savonnières where, if you wish, you can visit the site known as the Petrifying Caves, named so because here water turns into stone or rather, into extraordinary white calcareous creations. The tour continues then to Villandry Castle, famous for its gardens, unique in Europe, where flowers are mixed with fruit trees, vegetables, and aromatic herbs. The itinerary continues passing through Saché, the house museum of the writer Honoré de Balzac and ends in Azay le Rideau, where you can admire the splendid Renaissance castle, a jewel set in the Indre River.

Day 3: Azay le Rideau – Chinon (35 km; +200m)
Departure in the morning towards Langeais and its 15th-century fortress castle. The tour continues towards Ussé Castle whose turrets, pinnacles, and dormer windows inspired Perrault in creating his famous fairy tale Sleeping Beauty. You will spend the evening in the beautiful medieval town of Chinon, on the banks of the Vienne River, famous for its elegant red wines.

Day 4: Chinon – Saumur (36 km; +200m)
Before leaving Chinon, visit one of the cellars where the famous red wine is aged. The itinerary continues towards the Abbey of Fontevraud, one of the largest monastic complexes in Europe, where the tombs of the Plantagenet kings are kept. The tour ends in the beautiful town of Saumur. You will have the opportunity to reach the Abbey of Fontevraud, the largest remaining monastic complex in Europe, which is also the necropolis of the Plantagenet kings! (optional + 12km)

Day 5: Saumur – Angers (58 km; 304m)
The itinerary first follows the course of the Loire and then crosses the vineyards of Anjou. This way you will reach the peaceful city of Angers with the imposing fortress of the castle in which the largest medieval tapestry in the world is kept: the Tapestry of the Apocalypse.

Day 6: Angers
After breakfast, end of services and individual departure during the day.
