Description

Day 1: Caniço
Individual arrival and hotel check-in. Enjoy a bit of relaxation at your hotel, which is conveniently located on the beach - a perfect way to kick off your holiday. In the evening, there will be a welcome briefing held by a member of our staff.

Day 2: Caniço – Camacha – Porto da Cruz (25 km + transfer)
In the morning, a private transfer will take you to Camacha, where you will receive your rented bicycles. This village is renowned for its basket production; this handy souvenir is sold directly by the producers. Your Madeira bike tour will commence on a beautiful main road along the eastern coast: take in the wonderful views on the road towards the small fishing village, Porto da Cruz. Relax on the volcanic sand beach or visit one of the last functioning sugar cane mills.

Day 3: Porto da Cruz – Santana – São Vicente and surroundings (40 km + transfer)
A long and steep bus climb will take you to Santana, where today's stretch of your Madeira island bike trip will begin. First, however, visit this unique town: the traditional thatched farmhouses have been meticulously restored. The bike path follows a beautiful road that meanders through small, captivating villages, always along the eastern coast, until it reaches São Vicente. The village, named after the Spanish martyr St. Vincent, sits right on the sea. It is also known for its caves, formed 400,000 years ago.

Day 4: São Vicente – Rocha Negra – Porto Moniz (35 km + transfer)
Today, you're going to the mountains. A private transfer will take you to the Paúl da Serra plateau. From here, get on your bike and follow the main road, amongst cow and sheep pastures. A lengthy descent will then take you to the western coast of the island. Prior to reaching Porto Moniz, a spectacular panorama will leave you breathless. The place where you will be staying for the night is famous for its natural pools - small and large ones formed by the sea, attracting locals and tourists alike.

Day 5: Porto Moniz – Calheta (45 km)
Today's leg of your Madeira bike tour will take you along the western coast and through the UNESCO World Heritage site of Madeira. You'll be biking amidst fragrant forests and quaint villages, always accompanied by a spectacular view of the sea below. After each bend, a postcard-perfect panorama awaits. In the lively village of Calheta, the sand has been primarily imported from Morocco. The former sugar cane village is an ideal place to meet the locals.

Day 6: Calheta – Funchal (50 km)
In the first part of today's leg, you'll be biking directly along the shore towards the capital. From Ribeira Brava, the route takes you uphill, away from the coast before reaching one of the island’s most spectacular viewpoints. A transparent terrace has been constructed at Cabo Girao, 580m above sea level: the view of Europe's highest cliffs is breathtaking! A lengthy descent will then take you back to the coast, and then later into the heart of Funchal, the colourful and vivid island capital.

Day 7: Cable car excursion in Funchal
The cable car will take you, during the day and without a bike, to the famous Monte village. Once a noble wellness center with large quintas, this area offers numerous ways to spend an exciting day. You can visit the Nossa Senhora do Monte pilgrimage church and the Jardim Tropical Monte Palace tropical garden. You could also walk along the Levadas, the renowned irrigation channels, built by the island's ancient inhabitants to bring spring water downstream. For thrill-seekers, you'd love the descent from Funchal aboard the carros de cesto, traditional wicker sleds, guided by expert professionals that can reach speeds of 50 kilometers per hour. Madeira will be beautiful even without the bicycle.

Day 8: Funchal
After breakfast, the end of services or extension of the tour.
