Day 1: Špindlerův Mlýn
Individual arrival at Špindlerův Mlýn.
Day 2: Špindlerův Mlýn – Dvůr Králové (50 Km)
The day begins with a cable car ride up to the peaks of the Giant Mountains National Park. Here, at an altitude of 1,212 meters above sea level, the Elba cycle path starts with a stretch on the promontory. You will then cycle down to Vrchlabí (with a downhill run of over 700 meters), a town located at the foot of the mountains, and then head to Hostinné, where we recommend having a look at the two giants in the town hall and their fascinating history. The Les Království reservoir not only has a fairy-tale name (Kingdom Forest), but its dam is also an impressive architectural pearl. You will finally arrive at Dvůr Králové nad Labem, the first royal city on your route.
Day 3: Dvůr Králové – Hradec Králové (40 Km)
Most of today's stage will take place on beautiful paved bike paths. The exclusive baroque hospital of Kuks, with the famous statues of virtues and vices by Matthias Bernard Braun, is a must-see. In 2013, a brand new cycle path connecting Kuks to Hradec Králové was opened, thanks to which the route passes through the ancient Theresean fortress of Jaroměř. Together with the famous architecture of Josef Gočára Hradec Králové, near the city's historic center, Kuks and Jaroměř are the historical points of interest of this day. We recommend exploring Hradec Králové, a modern and lively city that was once the city of the Bohemian kings.
Day 4: Hradec Králové – Pardubice ( 22 Km)
Today's stage will take you to Pardubice, the gingerbread city: here you will have time to visit the castle on Kunětická Hora mountain. In Pardubice, you will be enchanted by the historic center, which has been declared a heritage conservation district.
Day 5: Pardubice – Kutná Hora (54 Km)
Today's stage – the longest stage – will take you to Kutná Hora, one of the 12 UNESCO cities of the Czech Republic. Along the way, you can visit the national stud of Kladruby, which in the 16th century, began breeding horses used in almost all royal courts. In the afternoon you will arrive in Kutná Hora, the medieval pearl of the tour. Here you can admire well-preserved buildings such as the St. Barbara Church, the Sedlec ossuary, with its 30,000 human remains, the Italian Court and the Silver Museum.
Day 6: Kutná Hora – Nymburk (56 Km)
Following the Elbe River, the route will take you to the historic cities of Kolín, Poděbrady and Nymburk, which you will reach on comfortable bicycle paths. Poděbrady was the birthplace of George of Poděbrady, Utraquist king of Bohemia, who proposed forming a European federation in the 15th century; you will find his statue in the center of the town. From Poděbrady, you will head towards Nymburk: here, the Elbe bicycle path leads along the river, allowing you to fully enjoy the surrounding landscape. Nymburk – yet another royal city on our route – will welcome you with its majestic defense wall, made from baked clay bricks, as no other stone source was available. In town, you can visit a legendary brewery, very famous among local enthusiasts.
Day 7: Nymburk – Mělník (60 Km)
Following the course of the Elbe, you will reach Brandýs nad Labem. In the castle of this town, the Emperor Franz Joseph of Austria, King Frederick William III of Prussia and Tsar Alexander I of Russia, met to plan their offensive against Napoleon. But, perhaps more important for the entire Czech history, was the murder of St. Wenceslas, in the year 929, which occurred near the church gate in the nearby Stará Boleslav. The day will end in the royal city of Mělník, with its expanses of vineyards above the confluence of the Elbe and Moldau rivers. Possibility to shorten the stage using the assistance minivan.
Day 8: Mělník – Litoměřice (50 Km)
After breakfast, you will start cycling from Mělník. The route passes through the historic city of Roudnice nad Labem, the fortress town of Terezín (small fortress and ghetto museum) and the historic city of Litoměřice, where you will stay overnight.
Day 9: Litoměřice – Děčín (50 Km)
After breakfast, you will start cycling from Litoměřice. Along the way, you can admire the gravel quarry in Píšťany, the center of the Velké Žernoseky wine region, the natural monument of Bohemian Gate, the regional capital of Ústí nad Labem, with the Střekov castle, the Větruše viewpoint (cable car and church with leaning tower), Velké Březno (the Březňák brewery and the neoclassical castle of the Chotek family) and finally, the royal city of Děčín, where you will stay overnight.
Day 10: Děčín – Pirna (45 km)
After breakfast, you will depart from Děčín by bike. This stage will provide a wonderful view along the Elbe Valley, as the river winds through the sandstone cliffs of the region. After crossing into Germany, you will reach the historic spa town of Bad Schandau, then the monumental Königstein Fortress and the historic city of Pirna, where you will spend the night.
Day 11: Pirna – Dresden (25 Km)
