Description

Day 1: Hochpustertal (Niederdorf/Villabassa or Toblach/Dobbiaco)
Individual arrival in Val Pusteria, starting point of the Drau cycle path. If you have time, you can visit Lake Dobbiaco enjoying the incomparable view of the Tre Cime of Lavaredo. You can also indulge in climbing in the Dobbiaco adventure park or visit the Gustav Mahler zoological park.

Day 2: Dobbiaco/Villabassa – Lienz/surroundings (50 or 55 km)
Leaving Dobbiaco you will cycle on the Drau cycle path in the direction of San Candido, where it is worth stopping to visit the Romanesque cathedral. You will then continue towards the Austrian border in the vicinity of Prato alla Drau, from where the descent begins that will gently lead you to Lienz, at the confluence of the Isel and Drau rivers. You are now in the sunniest tourist area in Austria, with an average of 2000 hours of sunshine a year. If you are traveling with your family you can take a break at Wichtelpark Sillian, one of the most beautiful playgrounds in the area or stop at the waterfall with the Galitzenklamm adventure park. Osttirodler is a summer toboggan run, behind which is the Mooslam Zoo, for the little ones. A refreshing stop at Loacker World of Goodness in Heinfels is highly recommended for everyone.

Day 3: Lienz/surroundings – Berg im Drautal (35 km)
Leaving Lienz, just outside the city, you can visit the historic center and the Roman archaeological excavations of the city of Aguntum. We then keep pedaling by bike along what used to be the route of a Roman trade route to Oberdrauburg, a town full of museums and mills where wheat is still processed. Your destination for today will be Berg im Drautal where there is a beautiful outdoor swimming pool. Here we recommend purchasing the Kärnten Card which ensures reductions and discounts on various activities.

Day 4: Berg im Drautal – Spittal a.d. Drau/surroundings (45 km)
The Drau Cycle Path continues through an idyllic landscape in the direction of Spittal, where you will have the opportunity to stop at the Greifenburg adventure park. You will follow what is called the Culture Walk, which leads from Upper Carinthia to Spittal an der Drau where the Porcia Castle is located, with its museum of popular culture (theatrical performances are also held there in July and August). Once in Spittal you can also choose to take a bike excursion to Lake Millstatt for a refreshing swim.

Day 5: Spittal a.d. Drau/surroundings – Villach (40 km)
Continuing on the Drau Cycle Path towards Villach, Carinthia’s second city, you can make interesting stops at the mycological museum, the world of Elli Riehls puppets, the archaeological excavations, or you can swim in Lake Ossiach or Faaker See. Villach awaits you at the end of the stage, a lively town with a Mediterranean touch. The center, animated by boutiques, cafes, restaurants and shops, is full of views that recall Italy and becomes the scene of many events in the summer. If you have time, do not miss a visit to Landskron Castle and its famous Adler Arena (flying displays of birds of prey) and the Affenburg, a mountain where 145 Japanese macaques live free.

Day 6: Villach – Lake Ossiach – Villach (45 km)
Just follow the Seebach river to find the way out of Villach; you will soon be able to admire the ruins of Landskron Castle, towering above the valley. You will be immersed in an idyllic landscape, surrounded by mountains, but there will also be Lake Ossiach to tempt you with its blue waters: take a bath before returning to Villach.

Day 7: Villach – Wörthersee – Klagenfurt (45 km)
At the beginning of the stage, you follow the course of the Drau. You will cross an ancient landscape, which has come to us unchanged, to then reach Lake Worthersee, where it will be possible to swim or go on boat trips, a real fun for the whole family. Passing through lively villages, you will arrive in Klagenfurt, where a romantic stroll will be the perfect conclusion to this beautiful journey. For the little ones, the Lake Worthersee Minimundus is always a nice attraction together with the Klagenfurt Planetarium and the largest reptile house in Austria.

Day 8: Klagenfurt
After breakfast, end of services.
Individual departure or extension of your stay.
