Day 1: Bled
Individual arrival in Bled, a famous town located on the shores of a beautiful glacial lake. With its unique church standing proudly in the center of this large mirror of water surrounded by alpine peaks and the castle perched on a cliff guarding the town, Bled is one of the most loved tourist destinations in Slovenia.
Day 2: Bled – Bohinjska Bistrica/Bohinj Valley (27 or 43 km; +110/-810 m)
Today starts with a private bus transfer to the Pokljuka plateau from where you can enjoy breathtaking views before descending into the nearby alpine valley Bohinj, a haven of peace and unspoiled nature in the heart of the Triglav National Park. You will then cross numerous alpine villages before reaching the small settlement of Ribčev Laz located next to the wonderful Lake Bohinj, the largest and deepest in the National Park. The view of the lake from Ribčev Laz bridge is unmatched. The itinerary then continues around the lake towards the Savica Waterfall, from here you can also take the cable car to Mount Vogel from where you can enjoy a spectacular view of the Bohinj Valley and Mount Triglav, the highest peak of the Julian Alps. Explore the forests surrounding the lake and spend the evening in one of the welcoming village pubs, where you can taste the typical homemade honey brandy.
Day 3: Bohinjska Bistrica/Bohinj Valley – Škofja Loka (49 km; +980/-1130 m)
Leave Bohinj and pedal to the charming village of Bohinjska Bistrica. Then climb 750 meters of altitude, on the Karst plateau of Jelovica (possibility of ascending by lift, at a cost of 20€/person). Once on top, the bike route continues through a dense forest that soon begins to descend towards the Selška Dolina valley and the hills of Škofja Loka. The first stop is in the village of Sorica, nestled among green hills, birthplace of the famous Slovenian painter Ivan Grohar whose statue will greet you at the entrance of the village, while in the gallery you will find a small collection of his works. Head then to the historic town of Železniki which hosts the remains of an old furnace dating back to 1826. Take a break in one of the village's inns to taste the delicious local trout. Today's stage ends in the beautiful town of Škofja Loka, one of the oldest in Slovenia. If you are not too tired, you can ride up to the castle, which stands on the hill that dominates the city. Spend the rest of the evening strolling through the streets of the historical center of this medieval town.
Day 4: Škofja Loka – Ljubljana (31 km; +170/-240 m)
Today take the chance to visit the historical center and discover the beauties of the capital, such as the castle, the main city attraction, which stands on the hill overlooking the city from whose tower you can enjoy a wonderful view. At sunset, you can then choose whether to relax having a drink on the terrace of one of the many bars and cafés along the Ljubljanica river, or take an evening walk to enjoy the lights and the nightlife of this vibrant city.
Day 5: Ljubljana – Vrhnika (39 km; +/-220 m)
Start pedaling through the 160 square kilometers of the Ljubljansko Barje, the largest swamp with aquatic meadows in Slovenia formed where once there was a lake, which dried up 6000 years ago, leaving behind a extremely diversified landscape, which today hosts some of the rarest species of birds, plants and insects in Europe. You can then decide to take a short walk in the Natural Reserve of Iški Vintgar Gorge, or visit the remains of the highest railway viaduct in Europe at Borovnica. During the warmer summer months, you can even refresh yourself in the karstic lake of Podpeč. Just before arriving in Vrhnika, you can finally visit the Technical Museum of Slovenia based in Bistra Castle, which hosts extensive collections of technical heritage, as well as Tito's cars.
Day 6: Vrhnika – Postojna (34 or 44 km; +590/-350 m)
Today's stage will take you off the beaten track, you will immerse yourself in the most authentic Slovenian countryside, you will pass the beautiful Mount Slivnica, Planina Lake and you can have a picnic stop in the Rakov Škocjan Nature Reserve, where the Rak river has carved a stunning gorge full of incredible formations, including two natural bridges.
Day 7: Postojna – Štanjel (42 or 48 km; +410/-790 m)
Today you will discover the amazing Postojna Cave Park, with its 21 km, the largest cave system in Slovenia. Entering, you will delve into a fairy-tale world made of large and colorful stalactites and stalagmites, not to mention the human fish, or Slovenian dragon, a mysterious creature living in the dark pools inside the caves. You can also make a detour to reach the impregnable and evocative Predjama Castle, embedded in a 123-meter high chasm.
Day 8: Štanjel – Lipica – Divača (48 km; +630/-370 m)
Pedaling on quiet roads you will reach the botanical garden of Sežana, and then visit the Lipica Stud Farm, where the beautiful Lipizzan Horses, world-famous, are bred, whose history is closely linked to that of the Vienna Riding School. Take a ride aboard a traditional carriage and watch them perform, it will be an unforgettable experience.
Day 9: Divača – Muggia (38 km; +280/-700 m)
If you missed the Postojna Caves, this morning you can visit the less known, but no less fascinating Škocjan Caves, a Unesco Site. You can then make a detour and reach the city of Trieste, in nearby Italy, visit the castle, the cathedral, and relax in one of the historical cafes overlooking Piazza Unità d'Italia. The itinerary ends in Muggia, south of Trieste, where it's now time to reward yourself with a great ice cream in one of the historical center's ice cream shops and relax on the beach.
Day 10: Muggia – Piran (37 or 48 km; +320/-330 m)
The route follows the coast and the bike path built on the old railway line. Enjoy the magnificent views of the Slovenian coast and the Gulf of Trieste.Experience the magnificent views of the Slovenian coast and the Gulf of Trieste. Don’t miss a coffee break in the elegant Portoroz. The trip ends in the beautiful Venetian harbor of Piran.
Day 11: Piran
After breakfast, end of services and individual departure.
