Description

Day 1: Arcachon
Individual arrival in Arcachon, an internationally renowned location founded in the 9th century by adventurous pioneers who took a bet on the popularity of seaside vacations and established there a first luxury establishment. Dedicate some time to exploring this city: the opulent villas of the Second Empire, the churches, its walkway along the basin, the port, and the winter city with its houses that blend a medley of architectural elements from different styles.

Day 2: Arcachon – Dune of Pilat – Arcachon (25 km)
After breakfast, you set off for the first day of cycling that will take you to the Dune of Pilat, the highest dune in Europe; its dimensions are incredible: 105 m high, 3 km long and 500 m wide; but what is even more striking is the exceptional panorama it offers from its top. After climbing the stairs, you can discover on one side an immense pine forest, a real ocean of green, and on the other side the Atlantic, the tip of Cap Ferret and the Arguin nature reserve located at the entrance to the Arcachon basin. The return follows an amazing coastal path through Pyla sur Mer and Moulleau, a lively location known for its fashionable shops and many cafes.

Day 3: Arcachon – Biganos – Andernos (25 or 30 km)
This morning you will take a train from Arcachon to Biganos from where you will continue by bike towards the characteristic Port of Biganos, Port des Tuiles, and Audenge where what used to be basins now serve as pools. Enjoying the splendid view of the bay and the countless species of migratory birds, you will proceed inland along a broad path that follows the Domaine de Certes up to the typical port of Cassy. The final destination is Andernos les Bains, a pleasant seaside resort.

Day 4: Andernos – Le Grand Crohot – Andernos (37 km)
Today you have a beautiful stage in the large Cap Ferret forest: from the grassy shores of the basin to the white dunes of the Atlantic, you will pedal accompanied by the song of cicadas and the scent of pines. After leaving Andernos, you continue your itinerary between the ocean and the forest, along the sandy beaches where the ocean crashes in. After a well-deserved bath, you will leave the beach and head into the forest to reach Lege-Cap-Ferret, Ares, and finally return to Andernos. You will cross a diverse vegetation, with enormous willows and ferns replacing the pine forest that lined the ocean. Having crossed the oyster port of Ares, you will continue towards the magnificent Saint Brice; enjoy a break in this place of peace before resuming your journey to Andernos.

Day 5: Andernos – Cap Ferret – Arcachon (30 km)
Cap Ferret separates the Atlantic Ocean to the west and the Bay of Arcachon to the east, offering a truly original geographical situation: on one side, the views of the basin with the Dune of Pilat and on the other side the waves and the immensity of the Silver Coast. You will continue by bike to the district of Jane de Boy, then you take the path and continue to the famous oyster village of l'Herbe and Canon. This part of the peninsula is enchanting, take some time to admire the unspoiled nature and the charming fishing villages, the bird island, and the dune. Don't forget to visit the Algerian chapel in Herbe, a religious building in Moorish-style.

Day 6: Arcachon – Le Teich – Arcachon (40 km)
After breakfast, leave Arcachon and take the cycle path through the port of La Teste. Then, you take the 7 oyster ports of Gujan Mestras, a small road that skirts the bay next to the railway station. You will arrive at the oyster port at Teste the port of Rocher passing through the salt marshes, vast expanses of brackish water from which the famous Fleur de Sel is obtained. You will then enter Gujan-Mestras, the oyster fishing capital that boasts no less than 7 ports dedicated to oyster farming. You can admire the wooden cabins lined up along the canal where the flat-bottomed boats are moored and some pinasse, typical boats of the area. This natural reserve is established to attract wild birds and the site offers various landscapes, from forests to prairies and lagoons. You will see many species of birds, including swans, gray herons, egrets, and pairs of storks. Return to the hotel at the end of the day.

Day 7: Arcachon
