Description

Day 1: Assisi
Individual arrival at the hotel. Your bicycle tour in the Umbrian Valley begins in Assisi, a beautiful medieval city, built on a spur of Mount Subasio. Its impressive appearance, with the magnificent fortress, towers and medieval buildings, can be noticed from afar. A pilgrimage destination, Assisi, is closely linked to Saints Francis and Clare. The city can also be visited on your arrival day, or the last day, when you pass here by bike. The gem of the city is certainly the Basilica of St. Francis, with frescoes by Giotto, Cimabue, Lorenzetti and Simone Martini.

Day 2: Assisi – Spello – Foligno – Spoleto (53 km; +326/-338 m)

This morning you have time to stroll through the streets of Spello and visit the Church of Santa Maria Maggiore, where Pinturicchio has left one of his masterpieces. The itinerary continues in the Spoleto Valley, through Foligno. A flat route will take you to your hotel, in the historic center of Spoleto, located on a hill surrounded by green woods and largely protected by medieval walls. The city is famous for the Festival dei due Mondi, which takes place in July.

Day 3: Spoleto – Montefalco (30 km; +472/-338 m)
As you pedal through the hilly landscape, among rolling vineyards and lush fields, you'll find yourself in front of the ancient village of Montefalco, which stands on a hill. The climb to the city will be a stimulating challenge, rewarding you with spectacular views. Known as the “balcony of Umbria”, Montefalco will offer panoramas that span the entire region, with a mosaic of green and vibrant colors of the fields and vineyards. In addition to visual pleasure, Montefalco will prove to be a unique gastronomic experience for wine lovers. Here, you can taste Rosso di Montefalco D.O.C. and Sagrantino D.O.C.G., wines that originate from the sunny slopes surrounding the town. These wines, an expression of a long tradition and the fertility of the land, embody the essence of Montefalco: strong, elegant and distinctive.

Day 4: Montefalco – Assisi (30 km; +264/-338 m or 44 km; +342/-500 m)
A beautiful descent will take you to Bevagna, whose main square with the two
Romanesque churches and the town hall offers a pleasant medieval aspect. Leaving Bevagna, you will cycle uphill to the village of Colle del Torre. The itinerary then continues downhill and then on almost flat ground, up to Assisi. You can also choose whether to visit Torgiano, or to continue directly to Assisi. The village of Torgiano overlooks the Tiber Valley, at the confluence with the Chiascio. In Graziani Baglioni palace is the Wine Museum, which is worth a visit. Next to the Museum is the tavern owned by the Lungarotti family, where you can taste their excellent wines. After Torgiano, you'll continue biking in the Umbrian Valley, pedaling on quiet roads. From afar you'll have a beautiful view of Assisi, built on the slopes of Mount Subasio. To reach the center, you'll have to make a small effort, but it's certainly worth it. After the visit, return to the starting hotel.

Day 5: Assisi
After breakfast, end of services and individual departure.
