Description

Your Cinque Terre bike tour starts from La Spezia and from there continues towards Biassa, a characteristic hilltop village of ancient origin, a viewpoint over the city and the Gulf of Poets. The architectures of main interest are the church of S. Martino which, despite repeated transformations, retains a Romanesque character and the remains of the 13th-century castle of Coderone, which was a Genoese outpost against Pisa, on a hill outside the village.

The itinerary on the trails of Cinque Terre by bike then continues towards Monte Parodi, which rises to 673 m above sea level in the north-western part of the gulf of La Spezia. The mountain slopes down with other hills towards the south and reaches the sea at Porto Venere. The mountain marks the border between the municipality of La Spezia and the Cinque Terre National Park, to which it is connected by a trail. From Parodi, it is also possible to access the high route of the Ligurian mountains or connect to the network of trails of the Cinque Terre. From the top of the hill, you can admire a spectacular view, especially on clear and cold winter days, ranging from Monte Saccarello to Monviso, crossing the entire Emilian Apennines and the Apuan Alps, and then ending with the islands of the Tuscan archipelago and Corsica.

From here you will ride for a while on the suggestive Via dei Santuari, a route of great historical and natural interest, which connects all five sanctuaries linked to each of the villages of the Cinque Terre, a sort of Via Crucis still used today by the faithful, on the occasion of annual commemorations.

You will finally reach Riomaggiore, a village of the Cinque Terre, which first news date back to 1251. Riomaggiore boasts monuments of great interest, including the church of San Giovanni Battista, built in 1340 with three naves, with the central one double compared to the side ones (like the other churches of Cinque Terre) and the Oratory of Santa Maria Assunta, which houses a 15th-century triptych and a 14th-century wooden statue representing the Madonna. The Castle dominating the historic center is also significant.

End of the tour on the trails of Cinque Terre by bike and return to the starting point.
