Description

Day 1: Arrival in Newcastle
You will arrive in Newcastle, an ideal starting point for your bicycle adventure. Whether you decide to fly, drive, or take the train, reaching this vibrant city will be very easy. The airport offers direct connections to Newcastle Central Station, and if you arrive by car, you can conveniently park at your accommodation. If you prefer the train, you can choose between a taxi or a pleasant 10-15 minute walk to your accommodation. You will immediately feel welcomed by Newcastle's friendly atmosphere, ready to start your exciting cycling adventure.

Day 2: Bowness on Solway - Carlisle (23 km)
After a hearty breakfast, you will meet our representative at your accommodation in Newcastle. They will provide you with rental bicycles, an information package with maps and route notes, and will accompany you to Bowness-on-Solway, the start of the Hadrian's Wall National Trail. Bowness offers breathtaking views over the Solway Firth, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, and spectacular views of Scotland. You will start your cycling journey with a leisurely ride along the shores of the Solway Firth, spotting wildlife along the way, before heading to Carlisle, a historic city rich in cultural treasures.

Day 3: Carlisle - Brampton (23 km)
You will leave the lively city of Carlisle to cycle along the picturesque River Eden. With your camera ready, you'll be prepared to capture enchanting views at every turn. The gently rolling route will lead you through the village of Warwick Bridge, until you reach Brampton for a well-deserved night's rest.

Day 4: Brampton - Twice Brewed (35 km)
Today you will travel through the village of Lanercost, home to a fascinating priory from 1165. Tackle the first real climb of your adventure: who in the family will reach the top first? You will pass by the Roman fort of Birdoswald and the evocative remains of Thirwall Castle. Crossing the Pennine watershed, you will reach the River Tyne and down to Haltwhistle, perfect for a tea and a slice of cake before continuing to Twice Brewed.

Day 5: Twice Brewed - Corbridge (31 km)
The day will start with an invigorating descent towards Vindolanda, a must-see site for enthusiasts of Roman history. You will admire 2,000 ancient writing tablets, a sort of window into the empire's past. A further climb will take you to Crindledykes, the highest point of the route. Then you will descend towards Fourstones and pass Hexham, finally heading towards Corbridge.

Day 6: Corbridge - Newburn (21 km)
From Corbridge, a more relaxed start awaits you. After an initial climb, the route will turn into a gentle descent towards Prudhoe. You will pass through the picturesque villages of Ovingham and Wylam, passing by the house of Robert Stephenson. You will pedal along an old carriageway to Newburn, following the banks of the Tyne.

Day 7: Newburn - Tynemouth (29 km)
With the climbs now behind you, you can enjoy the last day of cycling in total relaxation. Continuing towards Newcastle, you will count the bridges along the River Tyne, including the famous Millennium Bridge. A stop at the Cycle Hub will be the perfect opportunity for a refreshing break. You will then continue towards the heart of the Tyne's shipbuilding industry. At the end of your itinerary, you will celebrate the journey with a delicious ice cream in Tynemouth before being transported back to Newcastle.
