Description

Day 1: Bilbao
Individual arrival at the hotel in Bilbao. Take some time to explore the Casco Viejo, the pulsating heart of the city, and enjoy some of Spain's finest tapas.

Day 2: Bilbao – Castro Urdiales (40 km)
Departing from the Guggenheim Museum, you will leave Bilbao following the Nervión River to its estuary. In Getxo, you can see magnificent villas built in the early 1900s by wealthy Basque industrialists, and in the Old Port of the former fishing village of Algorta, you can experience the charm of old Spain. You will then cross the famous Vizcaya Bridge, an architectural gem and UNESCO-listed site dating back to 1893, before proceeding along the coast to Castro Urdiales, a typical seaside village with a lovely harbor and a sea-front Gothic church.

Day 3: Castro Urdiales – Santoña (35 km)
From Castro Urdiales, you continue along the coast and soon reach Sonabia with its impressive cliffs inhabited by a colony of griffon vultures, which you may see majestically circling above you as you cycle. Then you will reach the fishing port of Laredo, from where you will cycle on one of the most beautiful and extensive beaches in the region towards Santoña, the first port on the Cantabrian Sea, located at the foot of Mount Buciero and famous for its anchovies and local specialties. You will reach your hotel on Berria Beach.

Day 4: Santoña – Santander (46 km)
Departing Santoña, the route heads west and runs parallel to the coast, skirting beautiful green landscapes, beaches, and cliffs. You then reach Somo with its surfer beaches, while a few kilometers beyond you will come across Pedreña, with its world-renowned golf club where the famous Spanish golfer Severiano Ballesteros learned to play. From there, you will take a ferry across the Bay of Santander to reach the elegant capital of Cantabria.

Day 5: Santander – Santillana del Mar (54 km)
Leaving Santander along the promenade, you can enjoy the magnificent view over the Bay and the beautiful beaches of El Sardinero. The route then continues westwards past the wild beaches of Liencres, with views of the spectacular Picos de Europa, and along the route of the Camino de Santiago. A great cycle path then brings you down towards the Besaya River and the sea to the village of Suances. From there you’re just a handful of kilometers away from the final destination of the day, the medieval village of Santillana del Mar.

Day 6: Santillana del Mar – San Vicente de la Barquera (36 km)
From Santillana, you continue westwards towards Novales, with its fragrant lemon groves. Via beaches and coastal landscapes, you will reach Comillas, a wonderful place at the foot of the Picos de Europa, surrounded by crystal-clear water beaches and filled with modernist buildings, including El Capricho, designed by the famous Catalan architect Antoni Gaudí. The path continues through Oyambre Natural Park, characterized by a vast variety of ecosystems and landscapes ranging from steep cliffs to the sea, coastal beaches, and marshes. Final destination of the day, the coastal village of San Vicente de la Barquera.

Day 7: San Vicente de la Barquera – Llanes (47 km)
Today you will reach the promontory of Pechón. Once crossed the Deva River at Unquera, you will finally enter Asturias. In Colombres you can see the villas of Los Indianos, young emigrants who in the late 19th and early 20th century set off to make their fortune on the American continent and then returned to Asturias. The route then continues between the coast and the majestic Sierra de Cuera mountains, visible in the background. Finally, it descends through a eucalyptus forest back to the coast and reaches the fishing village of Llanes.

Day 8: Llanes – Ribadesella (44 km)
Cycling westwards, you will be able to visit some beautiful beaches, including the incredible secret beach of Gulpiyuri, considered a natural monument. The route then carries on between the coast, on your right, and the beautiful mountains of Sierra de Cuera and Picos de Europa on the left. You eventually reach the coastal town of Ribadesella, where you will enjoy its vibrant atmosphere by visiting the beautifully preserved historic center, declared a Property of Cultural Interest due to the many medieval and modernist monuments there.

Day 9: Departure from Ribadesella
After breakfast, services end and individual departure.
