Description

The meeting point for the start of this tour that will introduce you to the wonders of Liguria on an e-bike is in La Spezia. From there, we head towards Le Grazie, a village nestled in a quiet bay with very ancient origins, with a historic center that develops around the 15th century Church of Our Lady of Grace, the patron saint of the Country, inside which is preserved a magnificent wooden choir carved by Fra 'Paolo da Recco.

Riding our e-bikes, we will continue through the area of Old Varignano, where the remains, dating back to the first half of the 1st century BC, of the Roman Villa of Varignano, located at the bottom of a small valley, full of olive trees and waters and overlooking a protected bay, an ideal place at the time for docking and sheltering small boats.

We will arrive at Porto Venere, one of the must-see places on our tour of Liguria by e-bike. Once here, we can only be enchanted by the view of the palazzata, a succession of pastel-colored facades facing the sea. A long colorful wall characterizes the entire path to the Church of San Pietro, at the end of the promontory, in the Genoese Gothic style, officially consecrated in 1118. Its dark aisles are particularly atmospheric. You should also see the Arpaia cave, which is accessed by a steep staircase that descends among the rocks, also known as Byron's, in memory of the feat accomplished by the poet, who swam from here to Lerici. Another staircase climbs to the churchyard of the ancient Church of San Lorenzo, dating back to the XII century and in a dominant position over the settlement (to the left). Inside the church is kept, in a chapel, the alleged miraculous painting of the Virgin Mary, known as the White Madonna for the brightness of her skin. Even higher up, closing the trace of the walls of Porto Venere, is the Doria Castle, built between the XV and XVI centuries and in a dominant position with respect to the fortified nucleus of the village and the narrow arm of the sea that separates it from the nearby wooded Palmaria Island.
