Description

Day 1: Geneva
Individual arrival in Geneva and transfer to your hotel in Yvoire, on Lake Geneva.

Day 2: Yvoire – Le Grand Bornand (108 km; +2570/-2040 m or 112 km; +3103/-2563 m)
Today's destination is Le Grand Bornand, home of Reblochon cheese. On the road that will lead you into the heart of the Aravis mountain range, you will be cycling in the magnificent Chiablese region, before undertaking a challenging climb: the Col de la Colombière (1,613 m). Dinner and overnight stay in Le Grand Bornand.

Day 3: Le Grand Bornand – Albertville (76 km; +1660/-2250 m)
You will leave the picturesque Le Grand Bornand to climb onto the classic Route des Grandes Alpes, a mountain road that links Lake Geneva (Thonon-les-Bains) to the Mediterranean Sea (Menton). After having climbed the Col des Aravis (1,486 m), you will dive into the valley before facing the second climb of the day: Col des Saisies (1,657 m). You will then descend to Albertville, where you will spend the night.

Day 4: Albertville – Valloire (106 km; +3280/-2190 m)
Today you will conquer the Col de la Madeleine, one of the most mythical and classic mountain passes in the Tour de France. The top culminates at an impressive 2,000 m, the highest so far, and the north side is very pleasant, with a long steady climb ending with an open panoramic view of the nearby mountains. After a 20 km descent into the Maurienne valley, you will reach the bottom of the valley along a flat stretch, then climb the easy Col du Télégraphe (1,566 m) and thus reach the magnificent town of Valloire.

Day 5: Valloire – Alpe d’Huez (78 km; +2630/-2240 m)
Valloire is located at the foot of the Galibier pass (2,642 m), today's major climb. Cycling along this legendary climb has something magical: if you are real enthusiasts you will remember the many clashes that this road has seen since it was first introduced in the Tour de France in 1911. You will be rewarded with a breathtaking view of the Meije glacier and a memorable 40 km descent to Bourg d’Oisans, before tackling the 13 km climb to the Alpe d’Huez. The time to beat is 36’ 50”, a record held by Marco Pantani since 1995.

Day 6: Alpe d’Huez
After breakfast, end of services and individual departure. Transfers to Grenoble or Geneva can be arranged upon request.
