Description

Day 1: Avignon
Individual arrival in Avignon, a city whose history was dramatically changed by the transfer of Pope Clement V's Papacy from 1375 to 1378 who wished to move to Provence because Rome's air was unhealthy. On your arrival at the hotel, you can collect your travel documents at the reception, then we suggest you spend some time visiting the city. Dinner is at your leisure and overnight in Avignon.

Day 2: Avignon – Maussane les Alpilles (30 km)
Meeting around 9:30 for the welcome briefing, delivery of the maps, and bicycles (if rented). On this first bike stage, you will head for the medieval village of Les Baux de Provence through the Petite Crau countryside. The view of the Alpilles enjoyed from this small village perched on the rocks is simply breathtaking: to the south you'll see the shimmering Vaccarès pond, in Camargue, and to the North the legendary Mont Ventoux with its summit swept by the wind. From there, a short gentle descent will take you to your hotel in Maussane les Alpilles.

Day 3: Maussane les Alpilles – Aix en Provence (65 km)
Today you will depart by bike for Aix-en-Provence following the lines traced by olive trees aligned on the ground. In 1900, thanks to the availability of these trees and their oil, a local family got the idea to use it to make soap... in their own garden! The tradition started back then continues today and along the way you'll discover more about the preparation of the Marseille soap. You will also pass through Salon de Provence, where Nostradamus lived and wrote some of his famous prophecies. Once in Aix, take a moment to enjoy the local delight: the Calisson, a sweet of candied fruit and almonds covered with a thin and smooth layer of icing.

Day 4: Aix en Provence – Saint Maximin (40 km)
Today will be like cycling through Paul Cézanne's paintings, who around Aix, host of a very chic university, portrayed some of his most exciting country views. The sight of Mont Saint Victoire will accompany you to Saint-Maximin-la-Sainte-Baume, which boasts the largest Gothic basilica in Provence, which, in turn, houses one of the largest baroque organs in France. According to legend, Mary Magdalene found refuge here, fleeing from Herod's persecutions, and she was later buried in the crypt of the basilica dedicated to her.

Day 5: Saint Maximin – Le Castellet (55 km)
In today's bike stage, you will cycle south, through a wide variety of sceneries, including the fragrant Mediterranean pine forests.

Day 6: Le Castellet – Cassis (25 km) | Cassis – Marseille by train
Today you'll pass through unique landscapes: you'll pedal on a trail in the pine forest, enjoy a breathtaking view of the Mediterranean coasts and finally reach Cassis, one of the prettiest villages on the French Riviera. Arriving in the early afternoon, we recommend a boat trip to the Calanques, marvellous sea fjords that characterize this stretch of coast up to Marseille. In the evening, you can take a train to Marseille (ticket not included), the second largest city in France.

Day 7: Marseille
After breakfast, end of services. Individual departure or extension of the stay.
