Description

Day 1: Blois
Individual arrival in Blois, check-in at the hotel and delivery of the bicycles. We highly recommend a visit to the Royal Castle of Blois, one of the most famous sites in the Loire Valley. If you arrive early, you can plan a tour of Chambord Castle and return by cycling along the banks of the Loire (37 km).

Day 2: Blois – Amboise (43 km)
Today you will follow the itinerary of the Loire Valley, which partially borders the river. A circuit rich in historical heritage awaits you: Candé sur Beuvron, Chaumont Castle, perched on its promontory, and an exceptional view of the Loire. You will arrive in Amboise, passing through Clos Lucé, where Leonardo da Vinci spent the last four years of his life.

Day 3: Amboise – Tours – Chenonceau Castle (28 + 25 km)
If you didn't have time to visit Amboise and Clos Lucé yesterday, you will be able to do it in the morning. Then cycle towards Tours. Alternatively, from Amboise you can take a circular tour to visit Chenonceau, one of the gems of the Loire Valley, then return to Amboise on the same road and continue to Tours. It is also possible to take the train (TER) from Chenonceau to Tours. The train station is right next to the castle.

Day 4: Tours – Langeais – Azay-le-Rideau (31 + 16 km)
Today's bike stage is one of the most beautiful of the Loire Valley. You will follow the banks of the Cher River, up to the Renaissance castle of Villandry and its famous gardens and ornamental pools. Then, continue cycling on the Levée (dam along the Loire) and cross the river to reach Langeais and its splendid medieval castle, built under Louis XI. Before arriving in Langeais, at the height of the Chapelle-aux-Naux, you will cycle through meadows and orchards along secondary and little trafficked roads. It is possible to reach it also from Villandry, with a quiet route in the Loire-Anjou-Touraine Regional Nature Park, but you will miss the first part of the Levée, which we believe is really spectacular. Azay-le-Rideau, built on an island in the middle of the Indre river, is one of the most famous castles of the Loire Valley. It is a jewel of the French Renaissance, built under the reign of François I.

Day 5: Langeais – Chinon (38 km)
You will leave Langeais and its fortress with the suspension bridge. Then, follow the wild Loire river towards Bréhémont with the Levée, which offers a wonderful landscape on the Loire and its ancient traditional boats - gabarres and futreaux. Take time to visit Ussé Castle, which inspired Perrault for the setting of Sleeping Beauty. You can then choose between two different routes to reach Chinon: the shorter one, leaves the banks of the Loire at La Huhaudrie and arrives in Chinon after about 12 km, with some fairly steep climbs. The classic itinerary follows the Loire river on a trail, and after 5 km meets the confluence with the Indre river, passing through Avoine and Savigny-en-Véron, following the banks of the Vienne river to Chinon.

Day 6: Chinon – Saumur – Fontrevaud Abbey (35 + 12 km)
Between Touraine and Anjou, ride a wonderful stage on the banks of the Vienne river, which continues to Savigny-en-Véron. Then, the itinerary returns to the banks of the Vienne river, until the confluence of the Vienne and Loire rivers and the picture-postcard village of Candes-Saint-Martin. In Montsoreau, admire the Fontevraud Abbey, one of the most beautiful historical sites in the Loire Valley. The Montsoreau castle will welcome you with its fortress immortalized by Alexandre Dumas. To reach Saumur, there are only 18 km, but you will have to face some climbs including one at Parnay, of 18%. You will cycle in the heart of the Saumur Champigny vineyards.

Day 7: Saumur – Angers (61 km)
Saumur Castle is also worth a visit. Today's stage is rather easy, except for the last kilometers leading to Angers' highest points. Most of the time you will follow the Loire River to Cunault, one of the most beautiful Romanesque churches in the Anjou region. Then you will climb towards Lake Joreau, cycling in front of the Dolmen de La Madeleine and descending to Gennes. Now that you are in the Anjou region, you will cycle to the Abbey of St. Maur, the Benedictine priory of Saint Rémy and cross the Loire River to reach Saint-Mathurin-sur-Loire, la Daguenière and Angers, via the slate quarries of Trélazé. In Angers, there is a castle surrounded by a fortress built by Saint Louis: inside, you can admire the huge Apocalypse Tapestry. Don't miss the old districts of the city.

Day 8: Angers
After breakfast, end of services.
