Description

Day 1: Lake Bled
Individual arrival at Lake Bled, Slovenia. To start, you can dip your feet in the beautiful glacial lake; this shimmering body of water is famous for the picturesque church on the island and the cliff-top castle, all framed by the stunning Karavanke mountains. Bled is one of Slovenia's most famous tourist attractions. You can also take a walk on the lake’s west side, to enjoy some of the country's best views or taste the famous local cream cake (Kremšnita) by the lake, admiring the sunset over the mountains.

Day 2: Bled – Bohinjska Bistrica (27 or 43 km; +110/-810 m)
Today you will say goodbye to Lake Bled to reach another among the most beautiful lakes in Slovenia. A short car transfer will take you to the Pokljuka plateau, from where you will cross some alpine villages to reach Lake Bohinj, jewel of the Triglav National Park. Surrounded by high peaks, Bohinj is the largest and deepest lake of the Park. The Savica waterfall is the source of the lake and the Sava Bohinjka river. A cable car goes up to Mount Vogel, from which you have a spectacular view of the Bohinj valley and Mount Triglav, the highest peak of the Julian Alps.

Day 3: Bohinj – Tolmin (35 or 56 km; +1210/-1530 m)
In the morning you will have two options: either cross the Sorica Pass in the Julian Alps, or take a short train ride through the Bohinj tunnel to Podbrdo. You will then proceed in a narrow valley following the beautiful emerald green Soča River, as you reach the western side of the Julian Alps. Just before reaching Tolmin, you will have the opportunity to visit the only monument in the world dedicated to military cooks.

Day 4: Tolmin – San Martino (34 or 46 km; +690/-1600 m)
After breakfast, a transfer will take you to the Kolovrat saddle, from which you can admire splendid views of the Isonzo Valley. A theater of heavy fighting during World War I, it is now a very interesting open-air museum. Upon reaching the first village, Mrs. Josephine, who lives alone in a well-preserved old-style pub, will be happy to welcome you in her shady garden. You will reach today's destination, San Martino Collio, in the midst of a sea of lush vineyards. San Martino Collio is a recently and beautifully restored medieval village, with narrow streets and Mediterranean style houses: here you can sip fresh white wine and chat with locals in an authentic country pub.

Day 5: San Martino – Grado (65 km; +210/-300 m)
After leaving the Brda wine region, you will get to the "Southern Berlin". The city of Gorizia was once the dividing point between Italy and Yugoslavia. Further along the border, you can visit the smallest military museum in the world, a historical Yugoslav border outpost and the ancient Monastery of Castagnevizza, burial place of the last French king. Continuing south, entering Italy, you will soon reach the Adriatic Sea. You will spend the afternoon in the Friuli Venezia Giulia region, passing rivers, canals and ancient Roman towns. Your destination will be Aquileia, with its Roman excavations, or Grado, a lively historic town situated on an island in the lagoon of the same name.

Day 6: Grado – Portogruaro (59 or 87 km; +/-110 m)
This morning you will cycle a bit inland, leaving the sea behind you. You will pass through a multitude of “fishing valleys”, stretches of lagoon enclosed by earthen banks where extensive fish farming is practiced, and “casoni”, buildings used by fishermen in the past during the fishing season. Your destination is the city of Portogruaro, one of the main centers in the period of the Most Serene Republic of Venice, which is still impressive today, with its glorious palaces.

Day 7: Portogruaro – Lido di Jesolo (67 km; +/-90 m)
From Portogruaro, a wonderful and simple route awaits you to the west, along the beautiful beaches of the Adriatic Coast. There are numerous opportunities to relax and swim, so be sure to pack your swimsuit! Overnight in one of the two cities along this famous coast, depending on availability. Jesolo is very close to Venice, so from here, you can easily reach the airport or the old city on the lagoon.

Day 8: Lido di Jesolo
After breakfast, end of services and individual departure.
