Description

Day 1: Girona
Individual arrival in Girona and hotel accommodation. There is much to see and do in Girona: the city is famous for having one of the best preserved ancient Jewish quarters and its Cathedral boasts the largest Gothic nave in Christendom. We recommend strolling along the city walls or along the Onyar river, for a picturesque view of the colored houses on the river.

Day 2: Girona – Sant Feliu de Guíxols (45 km; +280 m)
Your gourmet Empordà by bike tour starts on a cycle path that will take you safely out of the city towards the Mediterranean Sea. This section follows the Via Verde de El Carrilet, passing through the towns of Quart, Cassà de la Selva, Llagostera and Santa Cristina d’Aro. All along the route you will have the Gavarres Massif as a backdrop, a mountainous forest mostly made up of oaks and very important for cork production. You will then arrive in San Feliu de Guíxols to reach your hotel, close to the beautiful Sant Pol beach.

Day 3: Sant Feliu de Guíxols – Calella de Palafrugell (30 km; +271 m)
Today, you will cycle north along the coast until reaching the port town of Palamós. You will cross the unspoiled bay of Platja de Castell where, as in any gourmet bike tour, you can enjoy a lovely picnic stop and a swim in the Mediterranean. You will then arrive in the picturesque fishing village of Calella de Palafrugell, one of the pearls of the Costa Brava. The last stretch of today's stage will be along the greenway de La Ruta del Tren Petit.

Day 4: Calella de Palafrugell – Torroella de Montgrí (29 km; +180 m)
Your gourmet bike journey through Spain continues north and inland from Palafrugell, with its fish, meat, and vegetable markets, the ideal place to get to know the products of this region. After leaving Palafrugell you will reach Pals, with one of the best preserved medieval centers. The route will take you through natural marshes with vast rice fields and long sandy beaches, before reaching Torroella de Montgrí, at the foot of Montgri Castle.

Day 5: Torroella de Montgrí – Castelló d’Empúries (36 km; +60 m)
The route continues north through the Montgrí Massif, in the county of Alt Empordà. You will enter the Bay of Roses with its long sandy beach. Next to the charming medieval village of Sant Martí de Empúries, and right in front of the superb beach, take some time to visit the archaeological site of Empúries, with its Greek and Roman ruins. The path then continues northward, passing through the protected marshes of Aiguamolls de l’Empordà. Today's stage will end in the village of Castelló d’Empúries, with its rich architectural heritage: the Gothic church, the ancient market, and the Jewish quarter.

Day 6: Castelló d’Empúries (37 km; +65 m)
This itinerary offers fantastic views of the Pyrenees in the background while you cycle through ancient vineyards. Today, you will have the opportunity to visit the most interesting wineries, mainly located in the towns of Vilajuïga and Pau. Discovering local vineyards is always one of the most fascinating aspects of a gourmet bike vacation, which is why we recommend stopping for a wine tasting.

Day 7: Castelló d’Empúries – Figueres (43 km; +370 m)
The last bike stage first crosses Peralada, where you will visit the castle and the medieval town. From there, you will cycle through the upper part of the wine region passing through Garriguella, Vilamaniscle, Rabos, and ancient woods. Don't miss a quick visit to Espolla's modernist cooperative wine cellar. From there you will face a long downhill stretch until you reach your final destination, the city of Figueres. Here you can enjoy a visit to the famous Dalí Theatre-Museum, one of Spain's most visited tourist sites.

Day 8: Figueres
After breakfast, services end, and individual departures.
