Description

Day 1: Donauwörth/ Wörnitzstein
Arrive on your own in the picturesque Donauwörth, located at the confluence of the Wornitz and Danube rivers. With the construction of the first bridge over the Danube on the Augsburg-Nuremberg trading route, the town gained importance and became a city in 1193. The Doll Museum (Käthe-Kruse-Puppenmuseum) is always a great attraction for young and old.

Day 2: Donauwörth/ Wörnitzstein – Ingolstadt (65 km)
In this first stage, you will quickly move through Bavaria by bike along the beautiful cycle path at the foot of the Franconian Jura, one of the most fascinating mountainous regions in Germany. As a result, you will have to face some hilly stretches, but will soon reach Neuburg, where we recommend visiting the old town and the towering castle, before continuing to Ingolstadt, home of Audi, where you can visit the Car Museum and the beautiful historic centre, with the castle and the large squares.

Day 3: Ingolstadt – Kelheim/Abensberg (50 or 60 km) | boat tour
Today you will cycle along the river to Neustadt and then proceed through hops fields to Bad Gögging. Further on, between Weltenburg Abbey and Kelheim, awaits an unmissable natural spectacle: the Danube Gorges. Before getting back on the saddle have a rest in the monastery brewery, where time seems to have stopped. Here, you can taste local craft beers and sample traditional dishes, surrounded by a historic and relaxing atmosphere. From there, take the boat that will lead you through the Gorge to Kelheim. Alternatively, you could choose to stay overnight in Abensberg and take the boat trip the following day.

Day 4: Kelheim/Abensberg/ Bad Gögging – Regensburg (55 km) | boat tour
Along the Abens and then the Danube, cycle up to the Benedictine monastery of Weltenburg. One of the best ways to enjoy this extraordinary spectacle is definitely by boat; in fact, from the Benedictine monastery of Weltenburg, built on a sandbank, you will embark to reach the city of Kelheim by the river. Later you can visit the Befreiungshalle (Hall of Liberation), a neoclassical historical monument, built on Mount Michelsberg, which overlooks the city: from here you will enjoy a magnificent view of the Bavarian city of Kelheim. The route then continues to Regensburg, the northernmost point on the Danube and the best-preserved city in Germany, a UNESCO cultural monument.

Day 5: Regensburg – Straubing (55 km)
In this stage of your journey through Bavaria by bike, we recommend you to make your first stop at the Walhalla temple, one of the most important neoclassical monuments in Germany, modeled after the Parthenon in Athens, built at the end of the 19th century by King Ludwig I. The route then continues along the Danube, which now begins to generously branch out into the surrounding territory. You will cycle to Straubing, the main city in the Gäuboden region.

Day 6: Straubing – Deggendorf (40 km)
Today's stage will initially lead you to Bogen, which became famous when a statue of the Madonna was found there in 1104. The Assumption Church standing on Bogenberg is the oldest pilgrimage church in Bavaria. The final destination for the day is the charming and vibrant city of Deggendorf, the gateway to the Bavarian Forest, the pulsating heart of which is Luitpoldplatz, the old market square overlooked by the old 16th century town hall, with its mighty Gothic tower.

Day 7: Deggendorf – Passau (55 km)
This final stage of your bike trip in Bavaria, after having made you cross the historic town of Vilshofen, will quickly lead you to your final destination: Passau, the city of three rivers and ancient episcopal residence. Take some time for a walk in the old town or for a boat trip on the Danube, the Inn, and the Ilz.

Day 8: Passau
After breakfast, the services end, and you can depart on your own. There is the possibility to extend your stay.
