Description

Day 1: Matera
Individual arrival in Matera, accommodation in hotel and delivery of rented bicycles. Guided tour (on foot) of the Sassi di Matera and the Historic Natural Archaeological Park of Rock Churches. We recommend dining in the Sassi area, in one of the typical restaurants carved into the rock.

Day 2: Matera – Alberobello (69 km)
In this first bike stage in Puglia we will pass through the small villages of Gioia del Colle and Noci, before heading towards Alberobello, Capital of Trulli and UNESCO World Heritage Site. Overnight in a Trullo, or in a renovated farmhouse.

Day 3: Alberobello – Ostuni (45 km)
Today on bike we will cross the heart of Puglia: the Itria Valley. We will stop in the typical villages of Locorotondo and Cisternino, to eventually reach Ostuni, The White City, an architectural jewel with its medieval center characterized by a maze of narrow streets that recall an Arab Casbah and its typical lime-washed houses.

Day 4: Ostuni – Oria (55 km)
Pedaling south, on quiet country roads, we will first reach the town of Francavilla Fontana and then Oria, Orange Flag of the Touring Club, famous for its 13th century castle and its beautiful historical center. At the end of the stage we will reach a traditional Masseria.

Day 5: Oria – Gallipoli and the Ionian Coast (60 km)
Today's itinerary will take us through the natural park of Porto Selvaggio, one of the most beautiful and unspoiled places in Puglia. Continuing along the Ionian Coast, we will arrive in Gallipoli, whose name comes from the Greek kalépolis (beautiful city). A picnic can be arranged on the beach and if the weather permits, allow yourself a nice swim.

Day 6: Gallipoli – Otranto (71 km)
Pedaling towards Otranto, the itinerary will lead us along one of the wildest stretches of coast in southern Italy, until we reach its eastern end. In this stretch of land flooded with sun, where Turks and Greeks landed centuries ago, the atmosphere is unique. Otranto also has a wonderful old town enclosed by walls and the beautiful Aragonese Castle, as well as the Romanesque Cathedral of Santa Maria Assunta, which houses a work of art of immense value: the floor mosaic depicting the tree of life and some passages from the Old Testament.

Day 7: Otranto – Lecce (45 km)
This final bike stage of our wonderful tour of Puglia will take us to Lecce, Capital of Baroque. Once in the city, don't forget to taste the Puccia, the typical local bread filled with vegetables and delicacies of local gastronomy, and take a coffee break with the inevitable Pasticciotto. At the end of the day, you can relax by strolling through the splendid streets of the center.

Day 8: Lecce
After breakfast, end of services and individual departure.
