Description

Day 1: Rothenburg
Individual arrival in Rothenburg, a small town located in the Tauber valley. The landscape is characterized by towers, houses covered with flowering walls, and impressive ancient structures. The historic center is well preserved and marked by intricate alleys, considered the archetype of the medieval German city and especially appreciated by tourists.

Day 2: Rothenburg – Ansbach (50 km)
Today your stage will take you to the Frankenhöhe Nature Park and if you want, you can make a detour to the source of the Altmühl. After this, you will be faced with the steep ascent to Colmberg castle, demanding but certainly rewarding, as its basic structure has remained unchanged since the 12th century. Today's destination will be Ansbach, a splendid Margrave residence.

Day 3: Ansbach – Weißenburg/Wettelsheim (60 km)
An ambitious construction project aimed at balancing Bavaria's water reserves shaped the Franconian Lake District, which you will cycle through today. Via Limes, the ancient frontier of the Roman Empire, you will reach today's final destination, which will be either the city of Weißenburg, home to the largest treasure chest in Germany, or the picturesque city of Wettelsheim.

Day 4: Weißenburg/Wettelsheim – Eichstätt (50 km)
From Treuchtlingen onwards the valley becomes increasingly narrow because the river bed is deeper here due to the Jurassic rock formations. The Twelve Apostles, very imposing dolomite rocks of the Altmühl Natural Park, are perhaps the most impressive rock formation that you will have the opportunity to see on this trip. Along the way, the Altmühl is overlooked by majestic castles, as you approach the next destination, the episcopal and university city of Eichstätt.

Day 5: Eichstätt – Beilngries (45 km)
In Eichstätt, you will have enough time to visit the dinosaur museum: in the Jurassic Museum (Jura Museum) there are countless fossils on display, from two-legged predators to archaeopteryx. You can also choose to travel through time and visit the Roman fortress Vetoniana, before returning to pedal towards the present. Through expanses of heather and juniper in the Altmühl valley, you will reach today's final destination, Beilngries.

Day 6: Beilngries – Bad Gögging / Kelheim (40 or 50 km)
The first stop today is Dietfurt, which means that you have arrived at the Rhine–Main–Danube Canal. At Riedenburg you can visit the Sound Museum, which exhibits a whole series of music reproduction devices. And then, why not visit Prunn Castle? In Kehlheim, not only you, but also the waters of the Altmühl have reached today's final stage: here the Bavarian river flows into the Danube. From the Befreiungshalle, the monument on the hill, you can enjoy a beautiful panoramic view.

Day 7: Bad Gögging / Kelheim – Regensburg (55 km) | boat tour
In the morning you will take a ferry through the impressive Danube Gorge to the Welternburg monastery, which houses the oldest brewery in the world and is definitely worth a visit. And here is the final destination of the journey: Regensburg, whose historic center has recently been declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site, without limiting its modern style. Open-air cafes, restaurants, and a vibrant nightlife will make your visit memorable.

Day 8: Regensburg
After breakfast, end of services. Individual return or extension of the stay.
