Way of Santiago by bike: 3 travel ideas
From Astorga to Santiago
The journey starts from the beautiful capital of the Province of Leon, at the crossroads between the Way and the Silver Route, rich in over 2000 years of history. From here, through the mountains of Leon and the green valleys of Castile, cycling between ancient monasteries and small villages, you reach Santiago with its iconic cathedral. There are 5 stages by bike, between 60 and 30 kilometers each, with differences in height that often exceed 1000 meters; therefore it is necessary to evaluate one's level of training before leaving, remembering however that you can always choose to undertake the journey by electric bike.
From Santiago to Finisterre
This is the very last stretch of the Way, the one that according to medieval pilgrims led to the end of the world, a mythical place and metaphor for going beyond the sacrifice undertaken to reach Santiago de Compostela. And from here continue further, until it is possible to walk... or cycle. The kilometers that lead from Santiago to the last end of Europe are about a hundred, can be covered in only two bike stages, in which to launch perhaps at the end of the Way to reach Finis Terrae faster than on foot or to combine with the previous itinerary to complete the experience.
The whole Way by bike
For the bravest there is the whole Way of Santiago by bike, from Roncesvalles to Santiago, for 18 days of cycling between France and Spain. This is the most challenging route due to the total length of the track, but the slope is not excessive. This might already be categorized as a journey adventure, rather than a spiritual journey. Unique places in the world are crossed, such as Pamplona, Logrono, Burgos and then Leon, Astorga and Santiago. A long journey for sure, but one that knows how to repay the efforts made, with landscapes, culture, good food and the friends that can be met along the way!
