Description

Day 1: Konstanz
Individual arrival in Konstanz, the largest city on the lake. After arriving at your hotel, take an extended walk through the Niederburg. Small alleys, crooked half-timbered houses and cosy wine taverns characterize the oldest part of the town. Climb the tower of Constance Cathedral and enjoy the panoramic view over the city, the lake and as far as Switzerland. The Imperia has been revolving at the harbour since 1993. The nine-metre-high figure is a satirical reminder of the time of the Council in the 15th century.

Day 2: Konstanz – Gailingen/Stein am Rhein (30-40 Km/19-25 mi)
The first cycle stage of your Lake Constance bike tour first takes you along the Swiss shore of the Lower Lake and the High Rhine. You reach Stein am Rhein. The town has one of the most beautiful medieval town centers on Lake Constance and impresses with its colourfully painted facades. A few miles downstream you reach Gailingen, one of the southernmost towns in Germany. Now on the German side of the Rhine, you cycle to the Höri Peninsula, known for its artistic scene. The painter Otto Dix once lived in Hemmenhofen: his house has been converted into a museum and can be visited.

Day 3: Gailingen – Ludwingshafen/Sippingen/Überlingen (45-60 Km/28-37 mi)
Today you cycle around the Höri Peninsula and reach the spa town of Radolfzell. Visit the Radolfzell Minster, which has the highest church tower on Lake Constance. Over the Bodanrück (watch out, hilly!) you pass Bodman-Ludwigshafen and Sipplingen. Following the cycle path along the shore of Lake Überlingen, you reach the town of the same name. You can already see the stately St. Nikolaus Minster from a distance. Stroll along the approximately five-kilometre-long lakeside promenade and enjoy the view of the lake and its maritime flair.

Day 4: Überlingen – Kressbronn/Nonnenhorn/Lindau (50-60 Km/31-37 mi)
Your Lake Constance bike tour takes you along the Upper Lake today. First stop at the pilgrimage church of Birnau. Situated amidst vineyards, the forecourt of the splendidly decorated baroque church offers a wonderful view over the lake. Visit the pile-dwelling museum in Unteruhldingen, the oldest inhabited castle in Germany in Meersburg and be impressed by the largest collection on the history of aviation in Friedrichshafen. Lindau’s old town lies on an island. Enjoy the view of the Alps at the harbour. In the foreground the town’s landmarks: the Bavarian Lion and the 33-metre-high lighthouse.

Day 5: Kressbronn – Höchst/Rorschach (30-50 Km/19-31 mi)
Not far from Lindau you pass the border to Austria almost unnoticed. Take a break in Bregenz and take the cable car up to the Pfänder, the local mountain of the festival city, including a fantastic view of Lake Constance and over 200 Alpine peaks. Just a stone’s throw from Bregenz, you cross the Bregenzer Ach and the Alpine Rhine at Hard. Welcome back to Switzerland! Visit the historic bathing hut in Rorschach and enjoy the view of the lake from the lakeside promenade. Arbon’s landmark is the castle. The museum housed inside looks back on the small town’s more than 5000-year history.

Day 6: Höchst – Konstanz (60 Km/37 mi)
The last stage of your Lake Constance bike tour takes you back to the city of Konstanz through a flat and easy cycle path. In Konstanz, visit the Rosgarten Museum (included), which looks back on the art and cultural history of the city. If you would like to spend some more time on your bike, we recommend a visit to the flower island of Mainau and a detour to the island of Reichenau, famous for its three Romanesque churches.
