Description

Day 1: Lake Bled
Arrive individually at Lake Bled. After settling in, you can dip your feet into the beautiful glacial Lake Bled. This glittering body of water is famous for its characteristic island church and cliff-top castle, all underlined by the stunning peaks of the Karavanke mountains. Bled is one of the most famous tourist attractions in Slovenia. You can take a walk on the western side of the lake to enjoy wonderful views or taste the famous local cream cake (Kremšnita) by the lake, watching the sunset on the mountains.

Day 2: Bled – Bohinjska Bistrica (27 or 43 km +110/-810 m)
A short car transfer will lead you to the Pokljuka plateau. From here you will cross some alpine villages until you reach Lake Bohinj, jewel of the Triglav National Park. Surrounded by high peaks, Bohinj is the largest and deepest lake in the national park. The Savica Waterfall is the source of the lake and the Sava Bohinjka River. A cable car goes up to Mount Vogel, from which you can enjoy a spectacular view over the Bohinj valley and Mount Triglav, the highest peak of the Julian Alps.

Day 3: Bohinj – Tolmin (35 or 56 km; +1210/-1530 m)
In the morning you will have two options: cross the Sorica Pass in the Julian Alps, or take a short train ride through the Bohinj tunnel to Podbrdo. Then you will continue through a narrow valley following the beautiful emerald-green Soca River (the Isonzo), reaching the western side of the Julian Alps. Just before arriving in Tolmin, you will have the opportunity to visit the only monument in the world dedicated to military cooks.

Day 4: Tolmin – San Martino – Solkan (46 or 57 km; +690/-1600 m)
After breakfast, a transfer will take you to the saddle of the Kolovrat, an exceptional panoramic point above the Isonzo Valley. Once the scene of heavy fighting during the First World War, it has now become a very interesting open-air museum. Reaching the first village, the lady Josephine, who lives alone in a very well preserved old-style pub, will be happy to welcome you in her shady garden. Cycling on the ridges above two valleys, you will reach Šmartno v Goriških Brdih, a restored medieval village where you can stretch your legs, sip white wine and chat with the locals in an authentic village pub. Before reaching the final destination of the day you will cross the Solkan Bridge: the railway bridge with the largest stone arch in the world.

Day 5: Solkan – Štanjel (40 km; +340/-270 m)
After leaving the Brda wine region, you will reach Gorizia, the southern Berlin. In fact, the city of Gorizia was once the division point between Italy and Yugoslavia. Further along the border you can visit the world's smallest military museum, a historic Yugoslavian border outpost and the ancient Castagnevizza Monastery, burial place of the last French king. Continuing inland, you will soon reach the vineyards of the Vipacco region, where you will stay.

Day 6: Štanjel – Divaccia (48 km; +600/-330 m)
Today you will cycle to the Lipizza horse stable, where you can admire the beautiful Lipizzaner horses, whose delicate and gracious dance has thrilled many visitors. Take a ride in the traditional carriage and visit their stables up close. You can also visit the unusual but interesting War Museum, set within a delightful Venetian tower and the fruit of a collector's passion! Overnight in a hotel run by a butcher's family, who is also maitre and wine expert and will introduce you to the best red wines of the Karst region.

Day 7: Divaccia – Trieste/Muggia (38 km; +280/-690 m)
In the morning you can visit the fascinating Škocjan Caves, a UNESCO heritage site. Then follows one last downhill ride with magnificent views of the Adriatic Sea before reaching the southern outskirts of Trieste and the ancient seafaring village of Muggia, where your cycling day ends. Park the bikes and take the shuttle to the seaport city of Trieste to visit the Miramare Castle, the cathedral or the main square of Piazza Unità, where you can relax with a cappuccino or an ice cream with the view on the Bay of Trieste.

Day 8: Trieste
After breakfast, services end and individual departure.
